Table Saw kickback and trimmed finger (Graphic description & images)

I’ve been away and have just seen this thread thanks to a "like" for a thread I started back in 2021? about how to use a Tablesaw safely. Apologies for the photo that has the blade too high, but the other shots show push sticks being used to keep digits well away from danger. So sorry to see...

How do I do this? Help!

As it’s a cupboard which isn’t going to be used very often how about just having the door as a lift off panel held in place by magnets, the plus side is that it will give you a little more room to enter the space. Ian

    Workshop floor? Keep it concrete?

I have used 1200 x 2400 x 18mm T&g roofing OSB straight over joists wth heavy cast iron equipment moved about on it with no effect for years. I would put a vapour barrier sheet down if you aren’t sure what’s under the concrete then 50mm kingsman or similar then the OSB or chipboard. The OSB can...

    Sold Lie-Nielsen no4 plus 2 Veritas blades

Emigrating to the land of the free-ish, so things have to go! The plane is still in its original cardboard box and has been used only a handful of times, but it did unfortunately get splashed with water as the fire brigade saved my building, it’s not at all bad as can be seen from the photos...

    So this Dovetailing business?...

You probably don’t need anything quite as fine as a fret saw for cutting out the waste on dovetails, if you’re struggling with a coping saw which most people do to start with, start off with the coping saw in the cut you have made with the dovetail saw and then pushing it backwards and forwards...

    Barnsley Workshop Chair?

Obviously I don’t know how they did it precisely but I would guess it was done with an adze, same tool as was used, well, everywhere pre-machines but particularly on the decks of ships. Ian

    So this Dovetailing business?...

I remember Mike G now gone member of this parish used a cut off square butter knife (Bone handled type) to do that with instead of the cabinet scraper, The more I think about it I’m sure it would work well. Ian

    just so u know

Yes they all seem to do it now, Heathrow it’s £5 and there are no machines, you drive away thinking there will be a machine in a minute but no you have to go online afterwards – pain in the neck, and if you do ever go to Heathrow watch out for the Ring Road around the airport sneaky little...

Sorry Adam, I’ve lost your bank details or shall I post you a cheque? Ian

Careful who you let teach you (table saws again)

Yes that bandsaw was just looking to take his thumb off, a moments inattention and it’s gone. And then his actual woodworking isn’t that good either, he was sinking a square piece of ash into the round base so he drew round it with a sharp knife and then proceeded to put his chisel into the cut...

    Misheard lyrics

Well I don’t really know much about birds at all, but this is what it says on a conservation site, Ian Ps I think it means we could both be right lol.

    Misheard lyrics

Now you’ve said that Phil, I shall have to listen again to the lyrics, I can’t believe I’ve listened to that all these years and never made the connection Doh! Bit like the "lesser spotted throat warbler" or whatever it’s called, it doesn’t mean it has less spots it means it’s not spotted as...

    DIY edge belt sander

Whenever I’ve made end grain cutting boards I have carefully and relatively slowly put them across the planer, then through the thicknesser, I think you’re worrying about nothing that it will destroy your blades, they are made to cut wood after all. Saves all that dust. Or you could just plane...

    What are these handles called?

Sorry didn’t say, I was thinking you could have some plastic or wood Cranks bolted onto the end of the threaded bar and then a couple of inches away from that on the other end bolt on the gear knob type which could work quite nicely.
