Advice for Rust free tools in workshops

ACF50, I have never used it, so help pls, if you were to spray a hand plane with it what would the process be before you could start to use the plane? Does it get all over your hands as well? Ian

    Black walnut cheaper alternative

Found this, the one on the right is approaching what I would call Tiger stripe. The colours represented here are exactly what I have come across in the real thing.

    Black walnut cheaper alternative

Yes, that made me think, brown oak isn’t so far off the colour you want. I was talking to the guy in the timber yard recently and he had quite a bit of it, he said it had gone out of fashion. Shame as I like it, particularly the Tiger stripe version. You could probably get it for ordinary Oak...

Well done. I’m impressed. From another retired genius. Ian

    It never happens in Europe!

If. And it could happen, that we lose the Gulf Stream then we will get winters similar to Germany. There would need to be a huge upgrade in civic and personal preparedness, we aren’t equipped because for a few days every few years it just isn’t worth it.

    Pre-engineered designs?

For the insulated room in a room check out commercial freezer builders, they may have one they are dismantling, they slot together in sections. Plans? No just make it up as you go along the same as the rest of us. I would have thought working as a set designer would be experience enough?

    To insult a woodworker.

"Nice veneer" from someone who claimed to be knowledgeable, looking at a massive L shaped 3” thick solid Oak desk, grrrrr.

    Exterior Masonry Paint

I would stay away from cheap cheap paint, within reason you get what you pay for, it’s all down to the expensive pigment in the paint, and it’s the pigment that gives the paint coverage. Open an account with Johnstone’s to save cash on their list price, their paint is always above average to...

    Silly pop up ads

And I don’t know why but the site becomes almost unusable with the ads, I mean that the pages don’t respond to touch and trying to write anything is so frustrating you give up.

Why is this dangerous kit being advertised on here?

Well sorry, my paranoia was self induced! After reading another post about the adverts getting in the way, I checked my account and turned them off, ( not that I had ever turned them on again before) All fixed. So now you can expect more drivel from me!! It really made trying to type anything...

    Wadkin AGS 10

Hi Antoym and welcome, nice bit of kit, I have one on my Sedgwick but rarely ever use it, I would suggest using it for a while and see if you miss it. Ian

Why is this dangerous kit being advertised on here?

is it just me or is this site almost unusable, writing anything is taking forever, sometimes when the backspace is used whole sentences are lost. I am not having any problems anywhere else- at all! It seems strange that this started when I criticised one of the advertisers on here. Paranoid moi?

Why is this dangerous kit being advertised on here?

You are of course correct, and knowing not to put ones hands too close is part of that essential knowledge, the problem occurs when that surety of purpose is bent by manufacturers and promoters of safety telling people to use this or that piece of equipment which they promote as the safe way to...

    Riving knife thickness

Ok, well thanks anyway, and your quick answers. It would have been silly as well as I will be mounting a guard on it too. Hadn’t thought of using a grinder lol. Ian

    Riving knife thickness

Yes can’t add to that, hope nobody minds me hijacking, having to make a riving knife for an oldie but goodie table saw, I have a sheet of brass the correct thickness and it will be a lot easier for me to cut than steel plate. Will it work? I’ve only ever seen steel ones Ian

    Accu-ish Slice

Nice jig, I tend to agree with Jacob, but that shouldn’t detract from what you’ve done, your jig your way of doing it.

    Woodworkers tool kit 1962-4 style

True, but not so good for dovetails I wouldn’t think.

    Woodworkers tool kit 1962-4 style

Interesting that the lower one whilst containing woodworking tools also includes a cold chisel, bit out of place really. I wonder if they just had a lot of them to get rid of. Ian

    Dust Extractor advice needed.

The Inspector is the man you need. From my limited experience blocking off one input on the machine just means that the remaining one gets all the suck. It does sound as if the pipework is a bit too long for the size of motor. Do you have blast gates on the unused bits of kit? Ian
