Shed on a steep slope project - retaining wall question

My post evaporated lol. You will have great difficulty stopping the Ivy worming it’s way into the shed, seal everywhere! Including around the gutters and soffits. Went to look at a renovation semi a few years ago and the attic couldn’t be entered as it was completely, and I do mean completely...

    Another alcove shelves post...

What you describe is a torsion box shelf, extremely strong, but I would recommend you buy Oak faced MDF to make life a whole lot easier. Ian

    Machinery Transportation

They definitely have pallet trucks on board, for loading and unloading. If it’s not too far they are very obliging usually.

    H-beam buying?

You could try a demolition co, or a srap yard. When a builder wants a set length is it delivered that length? If not jobbing builders may have a bit left over. Ian

    Machinery Transportation

There are a few companies that do this sort of thing, the one I have used a few times is Palletline, they have tail lift trucks which call at your address, all you have to do is obtain a good pallet and strap it down securely, the pallet then might change trucks a couple of times to get it to...

    curved reception desk

@worn thumbs "and I doubt the interior designer would know where to start" well worth it just to get his knickers in a twist. Interior designers do have their place, but designing pieces of furniture shows most of them up. Damhik.

    Joke Thread 4 (closed).

Would someone please tell me? Sorry I know it’s bad form. It’s the one with Captain Kirk and the woman with a locket.

    curved reception desk

It’s nice to be appreciated, thank you. A very quick guesstimate, the solid Oak would be £1750. So you were correct to let someone else work for next to nothing per hour. And yes they may come back, good luck. Ian

    I've just cleaned....

Poor thing, I think it’s a waterproof wax on the feathers that leaves that ghostly impression. Yes it must have hurt as the ones I’ve seen before the underside of the wings is outlined on the glass, showing that the bird was pulling up/braking.I presume you looked to see if it was on the ground...

    Electric vehicles

I mentioned it in post 2502, might interest you. Would it be possible to swop cars at work if going on a longer trip?

    curved reception desk

Also the pieces of vertical wood at the back will be the bane of the receptionists life, they will constantly catching it with their elbows. You did say that it was to be made from solid wood though. Do be careful if the client is expecting solid and you veneer! The confusing direction of grain...

    Electric vehicles

A lot of coverage here in the States of EV’s not able to charge in the very cold weather. Don’t know the details but there are pictures of rows of cars trying to charge for hours and nothing to show for it, and interviews with very disgruntled owners.

Lock-rebate or dovetail on a cabinet shell

I’m sorry but not really following what you are trying to do, are you making frames as in the photo with the plywood used as panels in the frames? Perhaps a sketch might help. I’m presuming that it’s to put a loudspeaker in? Ian

    Oscillating/bobbin/ spindle sander

I have the Jet one, my son persuaded me it would be useful and he was dead right, I had to make a sharp concave curve in some 5?” Pine. It was a real lifesaver, surprisingly powerful. The dust extraction on it is effective as well, as long as you have enough suction of course. Ian

    Commercial Steam Benders?

There are special plywood sheets that are designed to be bent to a curve, I don’t know the details I’m sorry, it was my product designer son who told me about it. Best of luck.

    Saw stop ( USA )

After visiting for long periods I can concur that Americans definitely are a conundrum and yes definitely passionate about things. The depth of knowledge of some people in esoteric things catches me out all the time, along with their interest in new things, and they do seem to love hearing about...

    Beginner Pine Timber

Some of the better quality Pine is used to make the wider sections of skirting, it’s a more expensive way of buying but for that odd bit, for a panel maybe, it’s sometimes worth looking at. Ian
