    Corner display case

Not totally following to be honest, but have you considered having the top and bottom cut out of solid timber with the 5 uprights mortised into them? Ian

    Joke Thread 4 (closed).

Haha, …"explores the themes of population growth and limited resources! …". NOT, they persuaded you to enter for voluntary euthanasia then turned you into the next days meal for the masses— soylent, a favourite variety being Green lol. Ian

    Joke Thread 4 (closed).

Well I hope it’s a joke, anybody else remember the film about Soylent green? You won’t get me drinking it!

My wife's died. Well, according to Inland Revenue....

Well as far as I’m aware dead people don’t pay income tax yippee!

    Shooting board woes

In all my years making furniture I’ve never had or missed having a shooting board, always just planed to a cut line, and actually it’s not that often that you need to do that really. Ian

    Chipboard floor boards

Seem to remember that OSB roofing panels are done like that on purpose, trouble is I can’t remember what the purpose is! Ian

    New member with some questions

Yes far too good to not take with you, don’t suppose you know a metalworker where you are moving to? They might be able to take some surplus with the arrangement that you can use it? Long shot I know.

    Robinson ET/E Saw

Fascinating. You’ve done a wonderful restoration on that Robinson saw. Power to your elbow!

    Corner display case

Couple of thoughts, it has nice proportions which means it isn’t very tall! I remember those horrible things. It sounds like it’s going to be permanently fitted, in which case you could continue the skirting across the front? Probably not if the room skirting is painted. As was said the returns...

Oversized plywood sheet for a corner desk

You probably haven’t finished them yet, but I wouldn’t like your wife to catch her knees on those sharp corners on the leg tops, or at least the ones at the front. Ian

    Old school horsing around

Nice, and a good job to practice skills on as you say, another piece similar is a freestanding towel rail, but no hinges on that of course. I remember our clothes rack had that dark grey and white chair webbing. The other webbing I have used on stretchers is seat belt material. Ian

Advice for Making a Parquet Desktop

Well I’ve re-read all of this and I believe that fastening a layer of solid wood 5’ x 2’ to a piece of plywood that isn’t going to move will eventually end up with either a split top or a bowed one, the forces in a plank of wood (reconstituted or not) that size are not going to be constrained...

chopsticks, toothpicks & skewers - uses

Best way to undo knots in chains- jewellery is to use two toothpicks, really works. The cut off tops of gallon water bottles and similar make good funnels.

Advice for Making a Parquet Desktop

Interesting problem, a few thoughts. Perhaps reduce the thickness or the top will weigh a ton! After gluing them all together perhaps do the surround a bit like a picture frame so that the table top moves behind it, yes the surround would be higher than the top but heyho. It would be easy...

MFT-style vs. Trad-style workbench design (is there a middle ground??)

Presumably you know by now that I meant the workshop door if you ever want to move the bench. Removals friend of mine was asked to move a houseful including the beautiful handmade Indian probably Rosewood cabinet in the sitting room. No way hosey, built it in the room!

    American pork chop planer guard

Bridge guard every time, it’s so easy to use I think you two must be doing something wrong, and what you are doing is definitely very dangerous. I would suggest you get some instruction before you have a serious accident.

    Curved door

Nice, reminds me of a tambour.

    Cleaning oak doors

Done it loads of times and never had a problem, obviously you need to vacuum, but in reality you would have to be pretty careless, and how damp is the wood?

MFT-style vs. Trad-style workbench design (is there a middle ground??)

That is a seriously beefy underframe! Most benches wouldn’t need the middle row at all, hopefully you have checked the width against the door opening? Ian

    Cleaning oak doors

Depends how bad the marks are, I think I would start with wire wool. Ian
