    Quarter round bathroom sink cabinet

I hadn’t realised you were going to laminate the doors - cool. And you certainly aren’t messing about with your press, seriously tough. How is the jack powered? Hydraulic? Ian

Why do we get such a limited choice of planers/machines in the UK?

Sorry I feel I must disagree, whilst you may get away with doing it that way most of the time, any bow along the length of a board will still be there if you only use a thicknesser due to its short bed, if it starts out bowed it will finish bowed. Yes it will be the same thickness all the way...

Advice needed -Minimax C26 G-T combination machine

Well that’s a Very different experience to mine, as @Jacob said there must have been something very wrong with that machine. I certainly would have been kicking off. The finish from the 3 Tersa blades on my one left a superb finish which most people would consider good enough for a coat of...

Advice needed -Minimax C26 G-T combination machine

Thanks @Hornbeam that’s good to hear, so just ordinary straight cutters on the Startrite. Yes Marmite and would have been a pain probably when I was working but this is just me pottering in my retirement, I feel sure it will suit me just fine. Ian

Why do we get such a limited choice of planers/machines in the UK?

I’m a little confused as you have asked for a planer and thicknesser but the examples you have shown us are only planers (or jointers if you’re infected by Americanisms), if you do want both I’m surprised nobody has mentioned SCM minimax or Hammer combined planer thicknessers, the SCM one I have...

Advice needed -Minimax C26 G-T combination machine

Thanks Mike, nice looking timber, when I was dealing with large planks back in the UK I put them through my SCM FS 350 that had 3 Tersa knives, so not unused to them and those shavings look quite normal to me, the only time I ever had a blockage was the first time I used my 3 phase extractor...

Advice needed -Minimax C26 G-T combination machine

@johnnyb @Spectric @Peter Sefton , thanks all, I shall check planer block diameter and speed and feed speed on the thicknesser. I would have loved to try - or even see one of these but they are rare over here (America) and the distances are huge, also haven’t found any stockist with a...

    Victorian Era Easels

Most interesting, and quite unlike anything I have seen before. Super fluid shapes and I really like the colours,do you make the dyes yourself? Presumably these are for displaying paintings?

Advice needed -Minimax C26 G-T combination machine

Hi, I’m looking to buy an SCM combination machine, the C30 G-T isn’t available here for 6 months but the slightly smaller 26 is, and its quite a bit cheaper. The main differences as far as I can see are the width of the planer 12” down to 10” , that doesn’t really bother me, both machines use...

And another Irwin record wood vice restore

That looked like it has barely been used, nicely refurbed, personally not too keen on the highlighted letters, but well saved. Ian

What are these woods like to work with?

Dead right, I love working with hard Maple, the shine you get on the wood from a plane or chisel is instantly gratifying. Certainly teaches people not to use abrasives. Ian

    Corner display case

And of course the easy answer to that is to stand it on batons (which could be concealed in the thickness of the base. Best of luck with your build. Ian

    Bench space, London

Well "Expensive " Chris, not just me being nosy as It’s possible that I might want to rent out my workshop. It sounds wonderful so it almost has to be quite expensive, can you give me a ballpark figure? Thanks Ian

    Making interlocking table base

I think that if I was doing it I would make one X and two halves hinged to the X then have some sort of "socket" to register into on the underside of the tabletop. Ian

No and I’m not either! But very sorry for your injury. But I’m sure we would all be wiser for knowing how it happened please.

Insulating single brick, flat roof garage

I’m not an expert but for half a job it will help, not sure you need to change the door though, you could put a couple of 1” layers of Celotex onto the back of the existing door. Insulating the ceiling will definitely help but look into the correct way to do it with air gaps etc. You could use...
