What wood drill bit type - 14mm, 24mm and dog holes?

Well thank you, I was intending to put it up on here as well, just needed to test something and then I will. Ian

    Resawing tips

Hi, 230 minus 2x 90 only leaves 2 inches which I would suggest you cut with a handsaw, a cheapish hardpoint will do it without any fuss if that’s what you have. I would do each 90 cut in two halves btw. A Bandsaw won’t necessarily follow the tablesaw kerfs as well as a handsaw. Best of luck, and...

    When book matching goes wrong...

Not sure what’s going on but it says I’m not allowed to open either of those.

    Door Frame leaning forward??

If I understand the problem correctly make your own frame with an angled rebate, hang the door using normal butt hinges and then add the T as decoration?

    Another Ban on the way?

There are fascinating studies on the correlation between lead in petrol and the rise (and fall again) in crime over the period when it was used.

    Mortice gauge refurb

Far too large but probably the right material would be masonry nails.

    Wanted 'Rotating Wheel' (See attachment)

Reminds me of the casters we used to get on Tea trolleys, haven’t seen them for years I’m sorry, presume you’ve tried the fix anything WD 40?

    Spindle moulder advice

Yes tooling is expensive! Are you going to be putting lots and lots through it? You may not need a power feed, I certainly have never bothered with one. Personally I would have a look at second hand Sedgwick or SCM, good solid machines.

Can I make all usual structures with just wood from my small woodland?

Just say that that white stuff and rot is very bad for your lungs, definitely don’t use it in your shelter!

    Plantation Shutters.

Sorry to hijack your thread @Britman I haven’t made any but I will have a couple of dozen to do next year, both solid panel and Louvre— (downstairs and up) for two houses. Questions 1 what wood to use? And 2, I have seen too many shutters that have sagged, and some of them at least must have...

My Woodwork Journey is about to begin - Total Beginner - I may need your advice.

I’m sorry to say this really but in my opinion for (nice) outdoor work like those I would have used the Gorilla glue, the blue in my experience isn’t as waterproof as they would have us believe. Ian

    Hidden fixings

All the stress at that corner is at the top, if I were to make that I would mirror the lower section by beefing up the top of those two planks also incorporating a chunky Dovetail in the beefy bit. The other problem with that ill thought out design is the left hand end doesn’t have any support...

My Woodwork Journey is about to begin - Total Beginner - I may need your advice.

Yes that blue Evostick will do for just about everything. Might be an idea as you are inexperienced to start with boxes made with Lap joints. Surprisingly strong joints that can if wanted be reinforced with a couple of pins, ( but not through the thin lap). Ian

    Machine Base---advise needed

that’s pretty much the same as on my SCM Minimax combination mc, and I have thought the same as you about making it fit all my kit. Mine doesn’t have a bracket though, the towbar has a raised spigot and the mc (which has a higher- 100mm front edge ) just has a hole for it to locate into. It’s...

Can I make all usual structures with just wood from my small woodland?

A few times when life has got me down I have daydreamed of something along the lines of what you are doing. Must say with Winter coming on it’s not going to be that pleasant on a boggy site though. If you allow yourself just a little expenditure for simple stuff like a saw rope and a Tarpaulin...

    US Election November 5th

That is a pretty good summing up Tony, I’m over here again and if he loses I fear that the direction the Dems want the country to go in is pretty disastrous.
