Furniture makers, how do you get your customers?

That’s good advice, some people are very aware of what’s going on, we stopped using a plumber when we realised how shoddy his unseen work was.

Furniture makers, how do you get your customers?

Don’t think many people do, I was always a bit scared to ask the price I should have done, scared to see the work dry up as well.

    A morning sawing

Nice, doesn’t live I Hartlepool does she? (sorry it’s the hanging Monkey) lol.

Furniture makers, how do you get your customers?

I’m sorry to be negative but my experience is that you will need deep pockets to keep living whilst you (hopefully) establish yourself. There has just been a good long thread on just this type of topic so I won’t repeat myself. I would say that it’s extremely difficult to make a living wage...

Hubris? Or an experiment gone wrong.

Silly me, forgot to add the bling pic.

Hubris? Or an experiment gone wrong.

I have just been having a good look at it - it’s falling apart lol. The brown Oak panels would just tap out as they were always just a very good fit, but I can appreciate your thinking on a repair. This is a drawer front with the "Bling" I was talking about, what was I thinking of? Mind you I...

Hubris? Or an experiment gone wrong.

That’s very nice thank you, it’s bad! A week in a tent with a dehumidifier might allow the joints to be closed again, but for me time is very short now so it definitely has to go, and I have someone keen to take it off my hands so that’s perfect. There is also a pile of sycamore drawer parts in...

    Retail mark up

Not sure about that last sentence, but I think you meant there’s a lot needs saying about greedy landlords! You are so right, commercial estate agents are without doubt a terrible parasitic bunch, almost as bad as Lawyers. They both just spread misery and get rich at the same time on the hard...

Hubris? Or an experiment gone wrong.

About 10 years ago I built an Oak coffee table with small Brown Oak panels (3.5” x 5”) loosely trapped within a framework forming the top of the table, with no allowance was made for expansion. It was successful, probably because the outer frame was a stout 1.5” x 2” Oak M and T frame. So being...

    melting/removing contact adhesive glue

But if the contact adhesive is the stuff I’ve used please do be careful as it’s highly flammable, even when old.

    Punching tool for ferrules

Can’t say I’ve seen that method, they are normally just a very good fit, I’m presuming you can get the handles off again? Just a thought, If I were doing it I think I would get the ferrules to be an almost too tight a fit then dry the handles out in a tent with a dehumidifier, fit all together...

Advice on building a steamer for steam bending

I have done a bit of a Steam bending and as you propose I used a box, just recently I came across this, recommended by people on another site I am on. Yes I know he’s American but he does appear to know what he’s talking about – being a shipwright he no doubt does it all the time. Ian

What saw leaves the best finish - hand or power?

Well the question was, what leaves the best finish and I think without doubt a sharp plane does, if you want to go to the trouble that is, simple jig, drop the counter in the round hole and plane it, smaller hole so you can push it out from underneath. Ian

Chair leg reinforcement + rocker base

Thank you, yes that should work, best of luck. I sat in my Alevel project today and I reckon I didn’t get it tilting quite far back enough, I may just be more laid back now lol.

    Kity 619 Table Saw.

Well that didn’t help the mad hatters. We aren’t as clever as we think sometimes, the amalgam in teeth will be looked back on in amazement in the future and it’s effect on the population. Much the same as the social unrest in the last century mostly in built up areas caused by lead in Petrol...

    Bow compasses to take pencils?

No there doesn’t seem to be such a thing, your only recourse is to thrash the little beggars till they stop wrecking the equipment! If only.

Chair leg reinforcement + rocker base

The only rocker I have made from my own design was for my A level tumty tumty years ago, it’s not just simply putting a curve under the legs. The curve maybe shouldn’t be all the same particularly at the back, you also need enough at the back to stop the chair tipping backwards, and what shape...

    Kity 619 Table Saw.

Thanks @imageel bad advice from me, I wasn’t sure which is why I said ... if it were me... But good to know thanks. The Americans have form when it comes to unsafe practices. For many years they used Mercury in ordinary house light switches, yes the contacts didn’t short out but dangerous if...
