    Door stay/holder

Might be a bad idea but what about a bungie cord which you could unhook when needed. The problem with a lot of stays is that they bring the door to a complete stop too quickly in a windy situation, eventually this causes damage either to stay or the door. Ian Ps and it’s cheap - very cheap lol

    Wadkin FM24” Planer Restoration

That is just wonderful, a testament both to the engineering and your hard work and skill - superb. I’m absolutely sure you have it there to fit, and I shouldn’t say it really, the Bridge guard? Ian

Can you help with heat damage on veneered surface

Interesting, never been big on filler of any sort but looking darker isn’t something I’ve noticed. I have used Evostick almost exclusively for ever, I wonder if it gives different results?

Can you help with heat damage on veneered surface

No I wouldn’t use sawdust and PVA either but I’m curious why you say it will go black? Not sure what to suggest, sorry. Ian

    Workbench Build

Looking good, I agree about the through tenons, can’t imagine why they ever did it that way to start with, but they were French. What is the purpose of the wide gap up the middle? Mine will have one but only an inch for a planing stick. "No it’s not a mistake I was going to have a shoulder...

Size for a through tenon on a cross-leg table?

I’m sorry to say but we really need a bit of a sketch to be able to comment. Ian

    Retail mark up

Yes I like that drier as well, a good simple design that obviously works. Sort of thing I enjoy designing- I call it engineering in wood. My saddle stands were of that type. Ian

Cordless power washer, anyone had one?

I suppose one way of helping to make it feasible would be to have a 15gallon? water tank mounted on something like a pushchair, one of those ones with good wheels and suspension, that you could wheel through the house. Ian

Cordless power washer, anyone had one?

I just can’t imagine it would be much use, sorry, the amount of pressure which is related to the power of course needs to be high, but it’s the amount of water you are going to need that will be the limiting factor.

Advice on building a steamer for steam bending

@Cobbs brill, yes that’s handy stuff for lots of things thanks. Ian @badger99 well it depends on what and how you are applying the pull force, but anyway save yourself £20 and use an old bit of lorry ratchet strap or webbing, trapped between two bits of wood- that should get you headed down the...

Gluing kitchen doors - Titebond 3

I’m not sure why you keep referring to it a superglue. You need a Pve glue for this job, no wonder you were short of time!

Advice on building a steamer for steam bending

Curious what a galvanised nail strap is? Not something I’ve come across, I’ve always used ratchet strap type stuff. Ian

Gluing kitchen doors - Titebond 3

Why do you want a dark glueline? Maybe that’s not what you meant. Personally I find the Titebond glues too runny hence all the squeeze out you mentioned, I’m sure it doesn’t help with people’s nervousness when gluing, but that’s nothing to do with this thread. I think the problems here are that...

    Wadkin FM24” Planer Restoration

Yes I have an SCM, and brill it is, but this is engineering at a completely different level.

Gluing kitchen doors - Titebond 3

So is it Superglue or Titebond? Anyway something went wrong, it does look as though the edge might not have been square, yes you’re right about cutting them smaller and alternating the cups and bridges. I try to stick to 5” widths but obviously it depends how that works out with the wood you...

    Pergola Post Base

You could do it the Japanese way by scribing the bottom of the post to some supporting rocks?

Drawers - how do you rabbet yours?

@Sgian Dubh yes that’s the way I was taught to fit drawer bottoms, I presume it was refined to this over decades of experimentation and perfecting methods. Not to say a new method can’t be good and innovative. I have some ideas up my sleeve to be shown soon. Ian

    Sapele for a workbench?

Should make a super bench, the only drawback I can think of is that it wouldn’t be easy to flatten in the future. Not that I’ve ever done such a thing anyway. A previous bench was made from Mahogany and it was very good. My present bench is Steam Beech, and the one I’m building in America is...

    Howdy

Yes welcome, some of those pics of timber are stunning! Like rippled lace, gives an illusion of a 3D depth. What sort of wood is it or are they pls? Ian

Furniture makers, how do you get your customers?

Good points and well said. Having an eye for style and proportions and designing things that make people stop and want to come and look is key. I did a pop up at a craft fair in my large village as a last minute favour, I was amazed at the favourable response, and for a few years after people...
