And it’s not just the thing at the bottom of the window, the bit above is a little contentious as well. I always spell it Lintle, but there’s also Lintel, and rather strangely Lintol.

    Saw storage

There you go, right to hand quick and easy. Plus a handsaw that lives with the saw horse.

    Japanese Box

Yes much the safest option! I don’t know what it is but I find that the odd gauge nrs of slotted brass screws are the ones that seem to fit best, or is it just me being perverse and liking the unusual? Mind you I bought a box of 2 1/2” Nr 7’s once, virtually unusable! Ian

    Japanese Box

Thanks Rob, that explains it perfectly, wondered what on Earth I was looking at with those buttons, I thought they were brass lol. But there isn’t really another way of holding the plinth on is there. Just being nosy really, how did you intend to sell it before your misses purloined it? Ian

    Plane restoration

And just in case you didn’t know, the whole planing a piece of wood thing is hugely easier and more pleasant after rubbing a candle over the sole a bit every now and again. Ian

    Japanese Box

Stunning work Rob, just curious about how the boxes were constructed, veneer over Pine yes, and I can imagine how most of it is built, but why are the bases made with mitred corners (with those lovely splines) are the bases a frame with a panel? Ian

    Myford Lathe

I am just selling my Myford for £400, I haven’t seen one of your style before and I suspect yours is a LOT newer than mine, 1977, so probably a good purchase.

    Fixing, Oak window boards.

Hi, and welcome. Always nice to have woodworkers from other Continents as it gives us a fresh insight. I know exactly what you’ve done, you were looking at the similar threads at the bottom of the page (3 years old) and didn’t realise it wasn’t current, you’re not the first! Anyway tell us a bit...

Table Saw kickback and trimmed finger (Graphic description & images)

I’m sure it will be blindingly obvious, but what are EPO and EMT please? Ah artist! Yes know exactly what you mean!

    Cill, old school here.

What has happened to my oak post?

Well that’s an original thought. But even though all dead I don’t think I would get that close to them!

What has happened to my oak post?

This is made the same way except hornets this time in America, quite beautiful but they definitely had to go!

As always Doug I am amazed at the variety of your work and am very impressed at the results you achieve. Very few people would have tackled that window and even less would have achieved such a good result, and fast as well.

    What on earth?!

That was pretty damning, don’t know if it was anything to do with what was said to him but what an appalling way for any Policeman never mind the head of the Met to behave. Makes you wonder doesn’t it.

    A Handle....

Very sorry to hear that indeed. You’ll just have to be an armchair woodwork expert on here. Ian

    A Handle....

Yes a shame, just wondered why you are selling up?

    Another table saw question

And they both deposit sawdust everywhere!

Trying to match a yellowy/ orange oak finish

A trick I found when repairing Ercol light coloured furniture which is pretty close in colour to your sample is to use Button Polish, yes it’s French Polish but it can just be dabbed on and rubbed with a rag, or use a soft paintbrush. Rustins do Button Polish I believe. Ian Ps welcome, pls let...

    Suggestions for a jig please?

Handsaw, put it in the vice and as you get mostly through and it closes on the saw put a wedge in the cut, or cut it horizontally in the vice, you can have it done in no time- less time than making a jig probably. Ian

I like that a lot Doug, proportions are spot on, can you recommend the paint they specified? I like the colour too. I’ve noticed before that you put ventilation thingies on your cabinets is there a particular reason? Ian
