Bit of a rebuild of a Startrite TA255 circular sawbench ...

Where did you get your Blacking kit from Rogxwhit...? I've been looking for one myself as I have a few ferrous items that need doing, but no one seems to have them "In stock"......They are sometimes listed as being in stock, but when I put it in my basket, it invariably says out of stock....!! 😡

    Elu MOF 177E Brushes.

Using one of my Elu 177 routers this morning( Type 2, "Made in Switzerland") in my router table and it started speeding up and slowing down of it's own accord until it finally wouldn't start up at all.... A quick check of the brushes and they were looking rather worn down, but I put it all back...

    Festool parallel guides ?.

....Really?...I never knew that! I just bought my set as a whole, never realised you could buy them without the " extensions". Perhaps, that would explain HOJ's comment about supporting the Parallel guides to prevent them from "dropping away"........Obviously, with the extensions attached...

    Festool parallel guides ?.

Here you go..... I've just set them up on my 2400mm MFT top. There are no clamps holding it in place and no additional supports to prevent it from tipping under it's own weight. It's perfectly balanced on its own....

    Festool parallel guides ?.

I'll take a picture for you in the morning showing both the LH and RH parallel guides with the 2 locating tabs attached..... Needless to say, when its correctly dialled in and set up, it works really well and remains accurate. 👍

    Festool parallel guides ?.

Slide where...?....There is only about a 5mm gap at each end between the sheet and the Parallel guides, so it cant "slide" more than 5mm.... The width of the rip is dictated by the 2 locating tabs, one at each end. These rest upon the FRONT edge of your rip, so the guide rail CANNOT move...

    Festool parallel guides ?.

Dont misunderstand me,..I do indeed clamp rails in place when circumstances dictate it,whether that be with rail clamps or more often in my case, with the Gechko vacuum rail clamps ( a God send on sealed boards such as MFC ) but we are talking about the Parallel guides here and as I've shown in...

    Festool parallel guides ?.

Over a much shorter distance, something like that may be useful, but I certainly wouldn't trust it to be accurate enough over a 2400mm or 2800mm length. The further the saw travels along the rail away from that front edge, I'd be inclined to think the rail could move and you'd end up with an...

    Festool parallel guides ?.

Those " narrow rip do-da's" can be removed.....They dont have to be there/fitted if you wish to reference your cut off the rear of the sheet. Each to his own, but ,...as you can see from my pictures, the system works well when breaking down really large sheets. Admittedly, with smaller...

    Festool parallel guides ?.

Yes,.....By moving the stops to the rear of the parallel guides, you can set them up to cut up to about 680mm from memory. Mounted at the front, you can cut up to about 200mm.

    Festool parallel guides ?.

I don't butt the parallel guides up tight to the ends of the sheet I'm cutting....I leave about 10mm play which allows you a bit of wiggle room to slide the rail back...once the rail is in postion initially, you make your first cut.... Then, there is no need to lift the rail with the parallel...

    Festool parallel guides ?.

I've got them, and by coincidence, I'm going to be using them today! They are not something I use every day of my working life but for certain tasks, they are very handy. If you have a lot of repetitive cuts to make in full length sheets ( 2400mm or 2800mm sheets), they are accurate and quick...

    DeWalt DW1201 radial arm saw

Yes,...and they have even more of a tendency to do that if they are fitted with a too aggressive tooth blade and the set up is wrong....!!

    DeWalt DW1201 radial arm saw

A Radial arm saw head works in a different way Steve......One of the big differences is, it cross cuts by pulling the saw blade towards yourself....The saw head has quite a few different adjustments & settings on it. Varying these settings changes the way the blade enters the material ( angle of...

    Best router for £500 fish

I have 3 x Elu/ Dewalt 625 routers and they have served me well over many years of use, but I also have a Festool OF 1400 and it is far more refined and, as Doug71 said, it's a joy to use.👍 Unless I need to hog out a large amount of material, the OF 1400 is my go to router for hand held...

    DeWalt DW1201 radial arm saw

Have you checked to ensure the blade is cutting at 90 degrees to the rear fence....? If it isn't set up correctly, the blade will be trying to cut but binding within the wood the further you pull it towards yourself. The other thing I noticed from your picture,....That blade looks like it has...

    Rutlands Warning!

I couldn't agree more Doug. I've bought about 4 or 5 different items from them over the past 6 years, including cheap router cutters and a 100mm 4 jaw chuck for my wood lathe. The chuck is of a reasonable quality, but it is by no means " premium, precision and professional " They certainly...

    Sold Festool Hoses

Sorry g1_lo, ...it doesn't say Antistatic on the hose..!!!....if you bought that hose and sold it as an AntiStatic hose, both you and whoever has bought it from you, have been misled......Of course I spotted the A/S emblem on the connectors, as I have loads of them on my Green & Black Antistatic...
