An early Record 52 1/2 vice, finishing options.

.....And by the way,...Welcome to the Born in 62 sixty year old club...👍 I've been a member since February this year.

An early Record 52 1/2 vice, finishing options.

I also like the look of the vice from that era. I have a 52 1/2 which is a little bit later than yours Andy, but very similar. I think yours dates from sometime shortly after 1918 according to the Record vice history I've read.... "The likely launch date for the new model was 1918, which is...

    Tile levelling spacers

"...I haven't seen any tilers use them..." "...if you don't have the basic skills..." ........Well,...That's me told then!...😂😂😂

    See my post #4.....

    Tile levelling spacers

" Conventional spacers" dont level any kind of tiles...All they should do is keep the grout gap a consistent width. Self levelling spacers work in 2 ways....By keeping the grout gap consistent AND lifting/ lowering the tiles to ensure all the surfaces of the tiles are at the same level where...

    Tile levelling spacers

But,....The original question that the OP asked was about self levelling spacers.....Everyone knows you can use the crosses vertically rather than the way they were designed to be used and pull them out prior to grouting......🙄 I've used those Vitrex self levelling spacers for a good few years...

    Tile levelling spacers

If your tiles are of the larger & thicker format, the self levelling tile spacers are really good. They are not as useful on smaller & thinner tiles. If you use them, make sure you've got a really good thick bed of adhesive under the tiles.....If you scrimp on the adhesive, the self levelling...

    Track saw, on Aluminium sheet?

I've never cut alloy with my tracksaws ( well,...never intentionally ☺) but I do quite regularly use a mitre saw to cut thin walled alloy extrusions. I use an alloy specific, negative rake, tripple chip blade with about 80 teeth x 250mm dia. Plenty of support and proceed slowly... !

    Air filter

I too have a Record Power model ( the predecessor to the AC400 , an AC2 I believe) in my home workshop.....Its also mounted up high hanging from the joists via hooks it came with and its controlled by a remote. I wasnt that optimistic about its efficiency before I bought it, but it has surprised...

    Dodd planer electrical issue

I was questioning my own research after I read your post #3 and was wondering how my 2 contactors were working fine...! 😁

    Dodd planer electrical issue

I'm not familiar with that particular contactor, but in principle, they are all pretty much the same. As much as I dont want to disagree with MikeK.....all the basic wiring diagrams I've looked at for various contactors show the L & N in connect to the top connections (R/1, S/3 & T/5)......and...

    Routing 20mm dog holes

Shipping is indeed a factor here.....I'm lucky I guess, to have someone who runs a CNC business nearby ( about 15 mins away and it's on my way to & from work...) I have recommended the guy to a couple of members on here and I believe it has always been the price of shipping/transportation that...

    Routing 20mm dog holes

Your experience of a CNC business with regard to accuracy & price is completely different to mine Mike.... My 2400 x 1200 MFT top cost me £100 in early 2018, and that included the price of the MRMDF sheet....! Mine is bang on square and the holes are a really nice snug fit for all my dogs and...

    Routing 20mm dog holes

Its generally accepted that a CNC'd MFT top is the most accurate,....and those holes are all done with a routering process. As much as I quite like the idea of the Parf system, I just cant see the cost justification......I mean, in reality, just how many tops are you going to need to produce...

    Festool parallel guides ?.

These are going to be my last comments in this thread Triton.....The Festool parallel guides are not " clamps" and are never meant to be...They are NOT the same thing as the TSO guide rail squares........You cannot use just 1 of the parallel guides instead of a TSO rail square,..it just wont...

    Festool parallel guides ?.

I don't know what else to say Triton.....I apologise if you misconstrued what I said regarding people telling you lies, but it was a figure of speech. As you can probably tell, I am a convert to tracksaws in general. Hence, the fact that I now have 2 table saws that are barely used. If I had the...

    Festool parallel guides ?.

Perhaps I should give you a scenario where this system excels..... Imagine you want to make a load of wardrobes or kitchen cabinets, for example. You would need a lot of panels of the same or similar sizes. You dont have access to or space for a large panel saw. With a tracksaw and rails along...

    Festool parallel guides ?.

I have 2 table saws.....and I dont remember the last time I used it to cut any type of sheet material....seriously! If you are planning to cut up accurately, sheets of material into smaller component pieces, this, along with an MFT type top, is the best system I've come across. Admittedly, if...

    Festool parallel guides ?.

Festool ( or any other quality tool manufacturer), spend ages designing & developing a tool or accessory to work in a certain manner. The stops and extensions we are discussing here are part of the Parallel Guide system and the system works......Believe me! I've been using mine for years and...

    Festool parallel guides ?.

I suppose it depends on how much you are paying to have all your panels cut, machined & edged, compared with just buying the full sized boards. Obviously, there is a cost implication if you are breaking down your own sheets and applying the edging.....
