    Tool collecting addiction

Tool or machine collecting or any kind of collecting can be a problem.....I have a good mate who collects watches, he must have about 50 or 60, all top of the line and valuable........Why?.....You can only wear one at a time!......I bet he hasn't worn more than 10 of them! But it doesn't stop...

    Old boat needs saving

Or both..? I have been watching this channel from the very beginning https://youtube.com/@sampsonboatco?si=e-9O2KngYO1GmsBw He started this about 7 years ago and bought the boat for One Dollar. Although I'm not into sailing as such, ( my Father was, as he was a Master Marriner) I have found it...

Using cedar for door frame and door?

I dragged a few lengths of Cedar out of a skip on a building site( with permission, of course...!) a couple of years ago. It was being used as external cladding and I thought I could end up making something from the reasonable sized offcuts that I'd acquired. I cut up & machined a few small...

How is your weather and have you experienced any summer yet ?

Here in North Essex, I would say the weather has been good overall this summer, in my humble opinion. I dont know if this is anything to judge it by, but I have a grape vine in my back garden and this year is the first time in 6 years that it has produced anywhere near enough bunches of grapes...

What wood would and what wood wouldn't make your preferred species to work with.

I work a bit with Spalted woods and they have challenges of their own. It's a thin line between over-spalted and just right......Leave it too long and it becomes far too soft to get a good finish on......Machine it up too early and the spalting can be a bit indistinct.......I do like the look...

    TV advertising quality!

There are any number of ads that wind me up on TV at the moment, but of all of them, it's the "We Buy Any Car" ads that annoy me the most. Made by, acted by and aimed at,... nothing more than simpletons. As someone stated earlier in this thread......The dumbing down of T V in general is...

    Kapex Accuracy out the box?

I would assume he means that when set to cut @ 90 degrees, it is actually 90 degrees....45 is actually 45 and so on...?

    Kapex Accuracy out the box?

I've had my Kapex 120 240v for more than 10 years now and I bought it new. I've never had to adjust a single setting on it in all that time. Yes, they ain't cheap by any stretch of the imagination, but for accurate repetitive work, they are second to none IMHO.

    ...... without paying the earth.

Blum do indeed make them...! I have used them on quite a few occasions when needed. The ones I've used require a 10mm dia hole drilling ( if I remember correctly) in the carcass about 50mm in depth. They are adjustable by + or - a couple of mm to enable you to get your required 2mm gap. I think...

Post a photo of the last thing you made

A little birthday gift for another mate of mine who happens to be an enthusiastic watch collector. I've had this bit of Spalted Beech stored away for quite a few years and made a mitered box from it.....hopefully he will like it. Not quite a perfect book match, but not far off...👍

    Festool OF2200 vs 1400

    Festool OF2200 vs 1400

I have all 3 and I tend to use the OF1400 the most due to the nature of the work that I do, followed by the OF1010 ( which is my favourite to use 😁) and the OF 2200 the least. It entirely depends on what you plan on doing with the router......Large dia cutters & deep cuts, then the 2200 is...

Hi Andrew, I hope you & that Startrite saw are both doing well 👍 Thanks, it's cleaned up nicely......"what does it do?!"......- I have absolutely no idea!.... Only kidding! 😁. It is designed to keep even pressure on the wood against the fence and down onto the surface of the table. In a...

Sourcing a motor - what is this mounting called

Hi Deadeye, It would appear that you have a bit of a Frankenstein saw there??....The 145 & 165 saws, utilise the round face mounting flange with the offset centre, as in your/ my picture. The 175 & 275 saws have a foot mounted motor and are of a slightly different design, as well as being more...

Sold Startrite "Shaw Guard" for TA series table saws.

Yes, it does! 👍 As I said in my original post, when fitting it onto the fence of the TA275, the green cast iron foot just bolts directly to the top of your fence.
