    Festool CXS 12

I have the TXS and have had it for over 5 years. I use it for 99% of my daily screwdriving needs. I prefer the TXS shape to the CXS and would definitely buy another TXS if mine packed up for good tomorrow.

    Wide alcove shelves

I was informed by the original supplier, that 200mm was the maximum depth of any solid shelf that they would supply( which is twice the length of the 12mm hexagonal pin)......I imagine it's to do with the leverage on the shelf when loaded up...? If a Torsion Box shelf was utilised, I imagine...

    Wide alcove shelves

I believe Hafele sell a version of this bracket, as do Hettich. The Hafele ones do not have anywhere near as much adjustment on them though.... I've had a load of the ones pictured for many years, but there is no identifying name or brand on them..... These do look pretty much identical...

    Wide alcove shelves

If I have a need to fit floating shelves, I use these things.... They are adjustable up/ down, left/right and also can be adjusted to tilt the shelf up/ down. The only downside to them is, ..maximum shelf depth front to back is 200mm. Accurate machining of the holes and pocket in the...

    The screw up fairy…

The very first cut I ever made with my Festool track and TS75 track saw back in 2009.....🤢😡😡 A major kickback! Never done it since, but I learned the hard way that you do sometimes need to clamp the rail and properly support the material that you're cutting ! The air was blue that day after...

    Panel optimiser?

Nope!.....Once all the quantities & dimensions are entered, number of stock sheets entered etc, I hit " Calculate " and it took about 90 seconds to produce the complete cultist and another 30 seconds to produce and print the PDF file.....Perhaps you should try it Jacob, you never know, we may...

    Panel optimiser?

The last job I did before Christmas entailed 16 sheets of 18mm material, 2800mm x 2070mm......The thought of working out the position of all those components by hand to achieve the best yield and optimum positioning would be time wasting, to say the least. If I remember correctly, it took about...

    Panel optimiser?

This is what I use and I've always found it pretty good...... https://cutlistoptimizer.com/

    It never happens in Europe!

About 15 years ago, we had a relatively light snowfall predicted in my area ( about 4 or 5 inches) by the weathermen. I live on a fairly steep hill and the road is a Cul de Sac, so doesn't normally get gritted by the local Council. The problem is, coz it's a steepish hill, it only takes about...

....??....We all know that Colin!.....Have you read the rest of this thread?

How do I lubricate old Brook motor?

Remove that brass insert and then you can work out what the thread size is in the motor body. There are various grease nipples available......and then you can just use a standard grease gun. I'm pretty sure 2 BA is the thread size of the grease nipples on a couple of old Brooks Crompton motors...

    Riving knife thickness

I appreciate your concern Budgie, but as you can see from the picture, I just copied the original riving knife.....It is still possible to buy new identical riving knives, but if someone wanted to modify their own knife, that is their choice. This particular saw dates from the late 50's/ early...

    Which sucker to go for?

I have a "Charles"( Blue) that I keep in the back of my van which is the bigger brother of the Henry.....It does wet & dry and I've had mine for at least + 25 years. It's never let me down and still works a treat. In that time its sucked up everything I've asked of it......Including emptying low...

    Riving knife thickness

Here is a picture showing the original riving knife off a Startrite 145 saw on the RHS and the replacement I made from an old saw blade on the LHS. I actually managed to get 2 out of 1 x 250mm dia blade. I checked the thickness of the original with a digital vernier to ensure the thicknesses...

    Riving knife thickness

TBH, a hacksaw with a couple of really good quality blades fitted to it,would do a good enough job of cutting out the shape. I just found it a bit of a laborious task, so opted for the thin blades in my angle grinder. I've got a couple of pictures of one of them somewhere....!

    Riving knife thickness

This is pretty much exactly what I did....!! 👍 Started with a thin cutting blade in an angle grinder, then onto an oscillating spindle sander, then finished by hand with a couple of files. Last job was to really clean it up and then chemically blackened.

    Riving knife thickness

Not stiff/ rigid enough in my opinion Ian.........I also made a couple of riving knives recently out of an old table saw blade. Nice and flat and not too difficult to cut up.

    1/2 inch router choice

I agree with @Doug B I have a couple of DW 625E routers ( as well as a couple of the older Elu 177 models) and they are good workhorses, if a bit agricultural! The Festool routers are in another league, not least of which is in the dust extraction department. I think the Festool routers also...

Drawers - how do you rabbet yours?

Well,....I wouldn't do one at all, coz I live in the UK and we cut rebate's here, not rabbet's....A rabbet is an American term.

    Construction adhesive?

Sounds like it's a Sectional Concrete garage......I think they are made up from approximately 30mm thick/ thin sections? A bit like this perhaps....?
