Is a full size guide rail worth it?

When I bought my first tracksaw ( Festool TS75) back in 2008, I also bought 2 x 1400mm rails & the joining bars at the same time, thinking I could just join 2 together when I needed to do a long cut. On the very first job I used it on, I soon got bored & frustrated having to keep separating the...

    Battery Fire Risks

I think since the advent and more common use of Li Ion batteries, it has become apparent that the batteries can potentially be an issue by catching fire.....Wasn't there a ban by airlines refusing to carry Li Ion batteries in their cargo holds....? I think it was after a few airplanes caught...

    Battery Fire Risks

I think a flat tool battery only takes about 20 to 30 mins to fully recharge, so I can't see the point in risking leaving it on overnight to be honest! Each to their own, I suppose!..??

    Battery Fire Risks

I have quite a few battery tools and when they have needed replacing over the years, they are all pretty much now Li Ion......(Still got a couple of 20 year old Bosch NiCad battery tools that still take a charge!....) Personally, I've never had any issues with batteries self combusting but a...

Recommendations for iron-on Beech veneer 19mm

Have a look at the Osterman site......They list quite a number of real wood edgings in different thicknesses & heights & colours...... https://www.ostermann.eu/en_GB/category?q=%23Hettich&etcc_cmp=SO20240302&etcc_med=Newsletter&etcc_var=Editorial_Button&etcc_par=SFMC I buy quite a lot of...

    Charnwood drum sander

I have a Charnwood WO20 cast iron topped router table that I bought new a few years back.......Its not good quality in any way but it does the job after a lot of fettling to remove a lot of burrs, cleaning out poorly threaded holes and throwing away a lot of the cheap & nasty nuts/bolts/ screws...

kitchen build by the new yorkshire workshop

He made that CNC machine if I remember correctly.....👍 There are a couple of subsidiary videos he made of that kitchen project over the 2 years it took to complete....one of which was of him making those worktops, which did not initially go as planned...!!! Plus, he stated that they marked very...

    Worry about kitchen cabinet weight

Some of the original type, similar to the one in your picture, had 2 x 10mm plastic studs moulded into them as part of the adjustable hanger......The purpose of the 2 screws was to act as a screw would in a rawlplug and expand the moulded studs to give more grip......On the majority of the...

    Worry about kitchen cabinet weight

The type of adjustable wall unit hangers you show, are designed & manufactured specifically for the purpose. Having said that, the type in your picture are used far less nowadays as they are ugly.....The better type are hidden behind the back panel, are all metal and mounted in a different way...

    Remember your first....

I started my apprenticeship at 16 years old in Engineering back in 1978. After the first 12 months in the company's training school alongside 9 others, we were all sent out to various departments within the factory. I was given a place in what was known on the shop floor as "The Cage"....We...

    Kitchen cabinet plinth retention

Try getting in touch with an ex kitchen dealer that used to sell Alno kitchens......The chances are, they may well have a few spares in a box somewhere.....? Failing that, try asking on one of the Kitchen Fitter groups on Facebook and see if any fitters on there have got a few spares in their...

Kitchen worktop - am I doing it right?

With all due respect Richard, but you may well be overthinking this.... I'm certainly not trying to tell my Grandmother how to suck eggs....😁 When using a worktop jig such as this, it's not really a case of moving the router clockwise or anticlockwise.....The jig (or slot is probably a better...

Kitchen worktop - am I doing it right?

My worktop jig is an Axminster one.....Had it for quite a long time now, but if I remember correctly, the width of the slot is about 32mm and the initial plunges/ passes are done with the 30mm guide bush tight up against the right hand side of the jig......Final pass at full depth with the bush...

Do I need a track saw / table saw?

That is the size they are made in and is the industry standard....Even if you could buy smaller, non standard sizes, the trade suppliers would charge more money for less material.......And there's always that occasional job where you need the 2800mm length of material....

Do I need a track saw / table saw?

Although his idea is sound in principle and it clearly works with a 2440m x 1220mm x 18mm sheet of ply, but it's substantially lighter (under 30kg) and smaller than the 2800mm x 2070mm sheets that I have to move quite regularly. Even using his sheet carrier, there is no way I could pick them...

Do I need a track saw / table saw?

I'd be interested to see "other options"...I've yet to come across anything else that is able to single handedly move a panel of this size & weight from a vertical plane to a horizontal plane and then roll it in any 360 degree movement to where it needs to be placed...Believe me, I did look...

Do I need a track saw / table saw?

Is that question for me...? If so, I think the colours would have given it away...😁 It's a Festool STM 1800.....A lot of money admittedly, but as I said, it's an absolute blessing and everytime I use it, the cost is forgiven.

Do I need a track saw / table saw?

About 3 years ago, I needed 3 sheets of an obsolete colour of 18mm MFC 2800mm x 2070mm. My usual supplier couldn't source the boards I wanted. I managed to find a company up North that had the 3 boards in stock & the matching 1mm PVC edging, so I drove up there really early one morning and was...
