Post rot at ground level if you protect them at that level it will delay the rot. Wet plaster is three coats not two, lazy chaser not chasing deep enough is usually the problem, in the days of 20mm Galvanised conduit it did not happen, but now days the constant need for speed has stopped the...

I could never understand why Postcrete is so expensive when they leave out most of the important (cheapest) item i.e "Cement" if you must use it due to time constraints of not buying in bulk, buy a bag of cement as well and put a trowel full into the mix.

New router lift needed/Sauter Vs UJK?

@Spectric Seems you changed your mind on the chuck extension as you now use a MusleChuck I see in later posts. I'v had the UJK lift for ten years without any problems, engineering wise it's better than all the others I have seen as it lifts from all four corners and not just with one or two...

@paulrbarnard Before you tile the wall, find out why its damp, usually gutters or down pipes, bathroom above leaking, and for information there is no such thing as rising damp, capillary action can allow damp to rise by one or two bricks if no DPC is installed, but if the damp is as high as the...

Workshop burgled, now my tools are on eBay

Alarms are very cheap to buy and a visual deterrent, yes they can be foamed into silence, just make it harder to access, a sound bomb inside makes it very uncomfortable to be there, good locks are only as good as the hinge side of the door, make a point of noticing any strange vehicles driving...

    Vintage drawing set. . .

Stencils I used to have had raised edges top and bottom so you could use a Rapidograph and slide the stencil back and forth to letter each word without smudging the ink.

    Wood stove idea

"Hands up" I deleted that post as soon as I realised I was wrong, but it still posted for some reason, it was the position of the weep holes above the very bottom of the return to the tray that I was alluding too, then saw it was a flashing not part of the tray.

    " Pooh Sticks"

Unfortunately we are mostly dictated too what bend goes into our septic tanks by the manufacturer of the tank, the bend on our Klargester has only a passing resemblance to a swept bend, not a full swept bend, I have however installed an access trap above the bend to allow my Poo Sticks to work...

    " Pooh Sticks"

Or to put it another way, the reason for a combined system is it's far easier to combine the two than spend on controlling the surface water to a water course or even build a water course, all of which contributes to our polluted seas and rivers, all this assumes the new village is above sea...

And that is why Water companies are allowed, legally, to discharge human waste into our seas and rivers when heavy rainfall overwhelms the sewage plants, in reality not a good thing to allow.

    Servicing The Oil-Fired Rayburn

We had a multi fuel Rayburn in France where coal was not an option, but plenty of seasoned Oak available, the problem was the size of the fire box, during the day had to be stocked every thirty mins or the back boiler just lost its heat and the CH started to cool, after the first year of using...

Combined surface and soil water drains, where only when underground drains (Victorian) where first introduced the sewage was not treated and all discharged into the nearest water course, since then we have become more educated on the harmful effects of untreated sewage and now have treatment...

Sorry to say this, but your system is illegal (EU directive) if it takes your surface water into the Septic Tank, should be kept totally separate. How is your Septic tank filtered, drainage field or soakaway? do you have a pre-filter or grease trap?

    Have any dumb dreams?

Every one I talk too about this has the same falling dream in childhood, seems its an insecurity dream, my father worked away from home a lot, suppose it makes a bit of sense of the dream. Thinking about that I also had a bully big brother.

New Detached Garage Workshop Design Considerations To Limit Noise

Sound is transmitted by vibration, the two ways to deal with it is too, absorb, reflect or both.

    Wood stove idea

This may be of interest: Single flow VMC is the most economical system to install. The ventilation system consists of a box and a system of ducts connected to the humid rooms of the house (kitchen, bathroom and toilet). The humid air is thus extracted by the ventilation system. Fresh air enters...
