    New Fence Posts?

Whats wrong with the correct name for these ? They are 'GODFATHERS' ! Not 'Repair' items - they should be used as original equipment for any 'close boarded' fence. The 4 x 3 posts with Arris Rail notches are 'coach bolted' to them with the bottom of the post a few inches above ground.

    Where to buy Accoya?

Apart from the fact that it is ~6 times the rate of inflation during that period!

    Rob Cosman Planing Technique

I cannot let that pass without serious correction!! (Sorry Devmeister - It seems that I am attracted to your errors  ) Antonio Stradivari (A 'Stradivarius' is an instrument not the maker's name) died 18th Dec 1737 - add 400 years to that and you get 2137 - a year yet to come!! Of...

    Replacement gear required

I said at the start that much more information would be needed before anyone could undertake manufacture and this morning (having little or no commitments) I decided to draw the Gear, taking scale measurements from the photo's posted. Naturally I have made some assumptions which may be wrong...

    Replacement gear required

Trying to second guess what the manufacturer wanted to convey with that marking is futile! Unless you are privy to the makers technical information. It might mean 4.2" Dia - but it might also mean 4" Pitch Dia. and 20º PA (Pressure Angle)

    Replacement gear required

No it would not! I've already pointed out that IF it is 4.20" OD then it is 10DP if it were 4.25" OD then it would be 9.88235294117647 DP (42 / 4.25) much less likely than your suggestion of 10.5 DP. Somewhat more important than the OD is the Pitch Diameter which, for a 40T 10DP gear, is...

    Replacement gear required

I can count the teeth and deduce that it is a 40 tooth but with no 'scale' or information about the OD, it's impossible to determine the DP or MOD. Add to that the fact that it looks as though the [boss] originally had two cross holes, one (or both) of which may well have been threaded, and you...

    Anyone with NOW broadband?

ZEN are dealing with that already. I had just over 30 customers with Zetnet at one time and when they had financial issues I switched more than 20 of them to ZEN - since then a further 6 have also migrated to ZEN and I've added at least 10 more later customers. ZEN support is by far the best...

Can/Should I use Yew for a practice chanter???

No, a Rackett is a different instrument - more like a squashed Bassoon

    Decent hinges anyone

I'm quite astounded to see such a question from anyone who subscribes to this forum, let alone one with nearly 3000 posts! A simple 'google' for "75mm Brass Hinges" brings up over ½ a million results for suppliers/stockists from Amazon to Toolstation going through many many lesser known names...

    Crazy world

I know as much as you have indicated - and that is that you know very little. Did you even know that 'Bubble Jet' is a Canon patent and that Epson don't use that technology? What you have said indicates that you didn't. If you are not printing photographs then you don't need an Epson printer -...

    Crazy world

You obviously have no idea why Epson make by far the best ink-jet printers and why they still refuse to license their technology to any other manufacturer! All other manufacturers use the Canon 'Bubble Jet' technology which uses a heater to create a 'bubble' which explodes, forcing the ink...

    Guns,guns, and more Guns

Never better summed up than by Oscar Hammerstein II in South Pacific - - - "You've Got to Be Carefully Taught" - - - "... before you are 6 or 7 or 8, to hate all the people your relatives hate, you've got to be carefully taught! "

Just what on earth is this all about.

Some ***** who has little idea how to use photoshop! It is quite obviously a poor attempt at pulling together a few images to suggest that a clout nail can be inserted into any slot in a 13amp socket. The nail is shown at about 60º from the direction it would be if it were really held in the...

    Misheard lyrics

Who remembers "The Laughing Policeman" ? Charles Penrose -- for many years I couldn't fathom what 'a Red Saman' was, as in 'Once he did a Red Saman and laughed until he cried'. I would have been in my 30's or later when I found out it was 'Once he did Arrest a Man ....' - - -

    The Grammar Thread

If I recall correctly - you complain if posts do not make reference to woodwork even though this is specifically the 'Off Topic' section, so it seems that you are doubly confused since one would not expect humour in a 'Grammar' thread.

    The Grammar Thread

You seem unable to appreciate that this is no longer 'The Joke Thread'. I don't know how, but it has now been designated separately as 'The Grammar Thread'.

I'll concede that point -- but, if you read my later posts, I do correct my initial broad-brush statement 😖

That's by far the best starting point Ian - keep it up!
