    Live centre screw

:) - I agree that we've 'moved on' somewhat - :) and yes it's now more about threading in general - and when I awoke this morning I did not expect to be digging into knowledge I gained some 40+ years ago ! As an historical context note - I was for some years head of the Export threading...

    Live centre screw

I'm known for my pedantry :D 😖 IMO it is wrong - the whole point about any thread designation is that of brevity. You would never describe ½"BSW as ½" x 12 Whit (surely?) - that requires an extra 7 charcters providing just the dia. and the thread series tells anyone all they need to know - if...

    Live centre screw

Even if @Stigmorgan did have a thread pitch gauge it's unlikely that he could get it in to check the INTERNAL thread at 6mm or ¼" dia. - those gauges are usually used to check external threads - he could posibly take a plasticine cast of the internal thread of course and measure that but it's...

    New music

I quite enjoy most Jazz - saw the MJQ Live at the Central Hall in Coventry in the 60's but I was in that same building on Friday at a Composition Workshop. I was singing First Tenor. (from sight! no rehearsal) One of the pieces had the instruction "Vowel of free choice" --- ie. no words...

    Odd dividing plate

The most useful dividing plates are those with Prime Number rings. It's easy to divide many even numbers, Primes are the difficult ones and often needed for both Screw & Gear cutting. Without a 61 hole plate it's very difficult to make a 61T Gear - I don't have a solution in my Gear-hobbing...

    Live centre screw

It looks as if Phil has solved your problem -- the fact that the manufacturers told you 1 - that it was 6 x 1.5 and 2 - that they were available via eBay is most disconcerting!! or that the 'technician' that you spoke to has no idea what he/she is talking about. I had little in the way of...

    Live centre screw

If you have measured the thread in the hole and compared that to a 'normal' M6 grub screw which is too 'fine', you will have great difficulty in finding any commercial fastenings supplier with 6mm x 1.5mm 'on the shelf'. Do not bother with anyone who offers you 'M6' -- that designation is...

    Live centre screw

If that screw really is 6mm x 1.5 then it is NOT M6 - ie a 'Special' M6 is 1mm pitch. 1.5mm pitch on a 6mm dia is VERY coarse, it would normally only appear on a 10mm Ø or larger. I would be very surprised if the information from the maker is accurate though so the standard M6 grub screws...

How do you do it? Your business

I would never 'start' - I wrote my own Accounts program - in fact I wrote it twice, once under DOS and later under Windows. Every business is different and all the commercial Accounting Suites have to take an aproach which will never be 'ideal' for any. My only costs are the Accountant's fee...

help us by a power station !!

'twas ever thus! - 11 of mine are in fact 49° SW which gives them 93% efficiency and 5 are 41° SE with 94.3% efficiency. More of an issue is a beautiful Silver Birch which at times shades the 5 panels by up to 14% but I would rather have the tree than gain that little bit!

help us by a power station !!

That's not what I read in the latest advice I can find with a quick 'Google' - which still states that 'direct South' is the 'ideal'. Your idea may be a good starting point but the problem is by no means simplistic - re-directing allocated funds away from 'Smart Meters' could be useful but...

help us by a power station !!

@Sachakins That still doesn't address the issue of housing stock that is not predominatly 'South facing'

help us by a power station !!

It seems that you haven't done sufficient research! An 8Kw system would require 32 Solar panels - I have 16 panels and that covers the two faces of my roof that come close to the ideal facing direction on a three bed semi - and I'm lucky being on a corner plot. Most of the houses on the...

Diamond or oilstone/wetstone for sharpening hand planes etc and what grade.

That's exactly what my father taught me! First time I saw him do it I did 'cringe' though. Now it is second nature.

    Software recommendation

It's no good just looking for 'software' - it would need to be the same software that was used to create the original plans. That is assuming that you wish to utilise the original plans. The only way to determine that, would be to examine the file name - but more particularly - the file...

Current cost of standard oak board 1"

    In the example quoted - and assuming that I'm doing the 'finishing' & 'fitting' - (and that it's a cost+% concept) - I would expect to sell at £50+£10 (materials) = £60 + 30% MU = £78 plus £95 (fit, finish, transport) = £173 + VAT (£34.60) = £207.60. There is no way that I could...

Current cost of standard oak board 1"

I suspect that Mr Rusty is suggesting that 'business' operates on 50% of the retail price is profit!! - certainly never in my calculations  so he is simply doubling the gross cost. You are suggesting that 'business' operates with a 50% MarkUp - again, I should be so lucky!! In...

    New Fence Posts?

Ah - but I was 'in the trade' - selling concrete products - for some years and am old enough to remember what they were called. It's a bit like 'Personnel Departments' are now 'HR' ?? why? or a Dustman is a 'Refuse Operative' !!
