    Joke Thread III

The mention of 'In a Monastery Garden' brought memories of Ronnie Ronalde who was whistling (and singing) in the late 30's - 40's through 'til the turn of the century.

    Painting new made sash windows

That was always the way my father taught me and - much later on - when I took up a management position with Mander's Paints the induction course made a very specific point of stating that the top coat (Gloss, Matt, Eggshell . . . ) was just a cosmetic covering, the Primer & Undercoats doing the...

    Check my geometry

I'll chalk that up as a good guess :D It'll be easier than the last 'Escheresque' tessellation I did . . . .

    Check my geometry

Hmmm...... I've just opened V2017 (I don't normally use it for a number of reasons) and although they have re-positioned the menu option [Model Info] it is still under [Windows] and the [Units] is still at the bottom of that list. I can't believe that they have removed that option in later...

    Check my geometry

You've mostly got things right but you are not working to a sufficiently high level of accuracy. I suspect that you are using an Metre template rather than a mm template (in SketchUp). Change that and you can work (as I do) to 6 decimal places - I'm using SU 2014 but I assume that there is a...

    Successful drilling

I'm well aware that there is now a 'range' of products but there is a tendency for too many people quoting 'WD-40' as a panacea without referencing the specific product which usually means that they are talking about the original.

    Successful drilling

WD-40 Multi-Use is not the product that is normally referred to when anyone specifies it as a means to lubricate.

    CNC Software

Like Brian, I also use CamBam but not the 'design' capability. I've been using CorelDRAW! for a very long time and all my 2D design work is done in that, 3D is done in SketcvhUp 2014 but I don't output from that for CNC work.

    Successful drilling

!!!! SO wrong !!!! Paraffin is good for Aluminium but not Steel - WD-40 is not a lubricator! Cutting Fluid is probably the best but any 'oil' would do - or possibly nothing depending upon the grade of steel.

Creo Elements/Direct Modeling Express - any experience?

That is at odds with my knowledge. I do know that V2014 (four years younger than V8) is free - I don't use it commercially so don't need to know whether that is allowed but I have seen a reference to V8 having a restriction as far as commercial use is concerned.

Creo Elements/Direct Modeling Express - any experience?

SketchUp 2014 is the last totally free version. It is still available though difficult to find.

    Union Jubilee advice

So why did you not edit the number out before re-posting :dunno: You can still do so of course!

    Is it any wonder why.....

I have no idea - I try not to concern myself with irrelevant political rhetoric. The only reason I commented was to provide a 'balance' - which previous posters had tried to avoid.
  14. J-G

    Is it any wonder why.....

Not peculiar at all. You promoted the 'apparent' attempt to restrict the younger voter without saying that there were alternative measures already in place - which totally iradicates any such attempt. The rest of your statement is just a silly non sequitur.

    ChatGPT - artificial intelligence.

... and like all others -- not needed!
  16. J-G

    Is it any wonder why.....

Why have you omitted to mention that there is already in place a perfectly reasonable alternative to the Photo ID in the form of a 'Voter Authority Certificate' ? Not only that, there is also a free-phone help-line for advice on how to apply and this information is distributed along with the...

    Parkinson Vise Wobble

I was never aware of Ajax or Fortis Vices being sold by Herberts, and (after a little research) see that the 'Ajax' brand appears to be a simple re-branding of a product made by Fortis. That wouldn't surprise me. The commercial Export department at Herbert Small Tools was very...

    Parkinson Vise Wobble

Some good guesses but it is in fact an UNDERCUT Buttress Thread. Probably the most difficult thread to cut. When I was head of the Export Threading Department at Herbert Small Tools, I had an enquiry for a Coventry Diehead & Dies to cut such. No existing Diehead could handle it - Opening the...

Working to close tolerance with wood

No. I suspect that it would be more trouble than it is worth and certainly take longer to first fill a syringe and then dispense the small amount which may well 'cure' before I'd have time to turn the plug and position it over the hole.

    Supersizing a female figurine

I actually prefer the second option :dunno: though I don't consider it 'perfect' -- have you thought about using two or three sheets of veneer (glued together) which might allow you to incorporate a 'wavy' profile - potentially a more natural look of a floppy brim? I'm sure it is well within...
