    Lets see your wood

Six is unusually small - in my neck of the woods 20 is usual. I have a different issue though, along with about 50 of my neighbours I have a address which is identical to another - with a different post code - some 350m away ! I often get food deliveries that I'm not expecting and likewise...

woodworm holes suddenly appeared in new build bookcase

Certainly - well I can buy it in Bar or Cone form from CooksonGold - it's used as a flux for Silver / precious metal soldering.

Post a photo of the last thing you made

I'm somewhat remiss in not also mentioning that the Forum software has a variety of options that facilitate the easy modification of any image to make the apperance on screen smaller without needing any external editing software. It seems that very few contributors even know that this is...

    Essential first aid items.

I've yet to find ANY plaster that can bo opened with one hand!!

Post a photo of the last thing you made

First I must say that I have never suggested that @Stigmorgan should limit the number of his posts - I did consider offering him personal assistance via Zoom and/or remote control but thought that might be considered patronizing (the offer is open of course). Second - surely you can see from...

Post a photo of the last thing you made

It is irrelevant that there are programs available to re-size images 'automatically', the point is that the forum should impose a limit on the size of attached files - both for individual files and the total of all files attached to any one post. This is usual in most forums to which I...

Advice needed on sanding small items for production

Never even considered PCD bits - I use mostly solid Carbide - up to 3mm - or Carbide Tipped above that. I do also use simple HSS Milling cutters on occasion, with comensurate reduction in speed. My 'final whisker' cuts are often sub 0.1mm

Post a photo of the last thing you made

Agreed, and it would be a useful 'long-stop' but also takes away any 'control' over the image - it certainly wouldn't be able to 'crop' the background. I would strongly recommend that all images are edited by the originator to both minimize the size but also to present the prime object in the...

Post a photo of the last thing you made

I'm sure that @Stigmorgan just attaches the photo' he's taken on his phone and may indeed not have the knowledge to first save them to his PC and edit in something like Photoshop and although I can do such in moments (since I do have a great deal of experience in photo-editing) learning to use...

    Virgin Media Email Issue

Whilst that is basically true - in practice the usual setting in any POP3 client is to [Delete from server once downloaded] - I NEVER leave e-mail messages on any remote server. The point about IMAP deleting on all devices is a red herring - - - using IMAP means that you have you messages...

Advice needed on sanding small items for production

Most of my CNC work uses 1mm though much is 0.6mm - but I will admit that is usually only as a very final pass taking off <0.2mm - and expletives are not infrequent!!

Post a photo of the last thing you made

When I created a 'Project' posting which needed many photo's, I was advisded by MikeK to always use [Full Image]. However, I always create my images in .PNG format - never ever in .JPG - and control their size to about 8 - 10 cm wide at 200 dpi which gives a final file-size less than 1.5Mb. I'm...

    Khan's ULEZ scam >road charging

Not for the first time have I found Encycopædia Britanica to be in error!!! It's is quite stupid to assign different dates to historic periods - what does Britanica say about the 'Regency' period - I won't view Britanica's page since it demands cookies which take too long to reject.

    Khan's ULEZ scam >road charging

Victoria died in 1901 !! By 1914 even the 'Edwardian' Era had past, Edward VII died in 1910.

    Virgin Media Email Issue

...and if not using Web-mail make sure that you are using POP3 rather than IMAP. The downside is (there always is one ! ) using POP3 restricts you to one device and if that is a desktop PC it means that you can't access mail outside your 'home' environs.

    Crazy IT people

I'd concur with that correction. I used to work for a high street Chemist chain who had a dedicated photographic shop and when Cine was in decline they employed me to run their new 'Computer' section. It was mainly BBC, Sinclair, Dragon, Oric, Amstrad etc. but the first 'IBM' clone that I bought...

Some help please - drawer runner issue

Hmmm... Not the way I was taught ! - 2 UNDERCOATS - one Topcoat - the Topcoat is purely cosmetic.

    Screws for oak cladding

That is not my understanding! The addition of Chromium makes all versions of 'Stainless' much harder than 'mild' steels which vary in hardness dependent upon the %age of Carbon included. That does not detract from the point that it would be wise to pre-drill.

    Question for a clockmaker

That's one reason that (using Quartz movements) I create clocks with the additional complication of a 'Day of Week' wheel which is driven from the hour hand spindle. A sort of 'half way house' :)
