Right. No need to be so patronising and arrogant. I'm out of this thread. If anyone wants further discussions regarding using the Emporia for Normal People then they are very welcome to PM me.

You have a very complex system. Do you not think that all these complex details might not put off some people from what can be used as a very simple but effective system ?

    reduce energy on standby

The Emporias system comes with two sizes of clamp. A very large one meant to go over the main tails feeding the consumer unit. As Nick has already said, our consumer units are very tight for space. However, all is not lost. You get a load of smaller ones and these are much easier to squeeze...

    What’s with this Scam?

I nearly fell for a scam on Gumtree. Selling a machine for £495. Message saying 'I can't come but will send a courier. Let me PayPal you the money". After Googling a bit realised it was a scam. Told the punter to Foxtrot Oscar. I think 'scamming' and a slang word for female genitalia...

Electric house heating - any new tech savvy members?

AFAIK it isn't. The emphasis is the word 'permeable'. I think. It's a great pity that Mike G doesn't post here anymore as he is an expert.

The cost of a microwave on standby

You're confusing market penetration with standardisation. Both Betamax and VHS were standards. Just different. The market decided that VHS was better. There are just so many things potentially wrong with that suggestion I really don't know where to start.

The cost of a microwave on standby

Yebbut...what benefit does it give you ? I opted to fit the Emporia system....much, much more flexible and sophisticated. Let's you monitor consumption at the circuit level.

You also forgot to add the extra electricity cost in drying out all those outdoor clothes as it rains so much in Cumbria

Electric house heating - any new tech savvy members?

Where on earth do you get that idea from ? But only when they are operating at a low temperature That's what we have done. We were burning through a full tank each month. So night time temperature reduced from 15 to 12 degrees. Daytime to 16.5 degrees. Heating only on for a few hours...

Electric house heating - any new tech savvy members?

Do you have any sources to back that up, please? And as an aside, for any given pipe radius there is a sweet spot as to insulation diameter. It's a fallacy to think that the thicker the better because the surface area also increases which increases the heat loss.

    Drying (a lot of) firewood

I think that it depends on the diameter. Most of my trees that I fell (ash die-back) only have trunks about 8" diameter. Easy enough with an axe but much, much harder when they are seasoned. For thicker trunks, I'd definitely use a log splitter. Did you get your solar controller ? There was...

    Drying (a lot of) firewood

Um, actually you need four. I've got three stuck in a large diameter round albeit only abut 6" thick. I have one grenade left. I keep hoping that as the round dries out it might release the others or at leat the crack will develop. Dickm....having chopped down a lot of different species over...
