    It Stopped Raining

Jacob, you're very welcome to come over and dig a load of our dandelions up and take them away. We have more than enough :)

Are EV's good value? Apparently not!

Ditto. When we bought our place the EPC value was 40 which is on the border between E and F. It is now on the border between D and C at 68

Are EV's good value? Apparently not!

Possibly but not sure where the new sites might be in the UK. And, of course, fusion.

Are EV's good value? Apparently not!

I agree that we will get some solar power - even through cloud - but looking at the graphs, it is very, very low in winter. And battery storage is all well and good. But where does the electricity come from in the first place?

Are EV's good value? Apparently not!

Of course, it will run out at some point in time. But I say again...where is the power going to come from at night and without any wind ?

Are EV's good value? Apparently not!

And I'm afraid more bad news from the USA... During the final few months of 2023, the market saw sales slowing, unsold electric vehicles piling up on dealer lots, Tesla struggling to get a handful of its much hyped CyberTrucks onto the market after five long years of promises, pure-play EV...

Are EV's good value? Apparently not!

Precisely my point and I was responding to the spin being placed on wind and solar by the OP. This is a more realistic picture and shows how dependent we are on gas to fill the shortfall when the wind doesn't blow.

Are EV's good value? Apparently not!

Trouble with wind is that it doesn't always blow. And as for solar? Well, I could count the days we've seen any sun this year on the fingers of one hand. And the sun doesn't shine at night. We typically need 30GW at night. So you could cover the cuntry with solar. The North Sea with wind...

Are EV's good value? Apparently not!

If EVs are so fantastic then why is Hertz getting rid of 20,000 of them and replacing with petrol ICE ?
  11. woodieallen

Are EV's good value? Apparently not!

Your first point ignores one little problem. The total demand is only 30GW. Probably middle of the night. Frequently demand is close to the maximum available. So where do you think that extra 10GW is going to come from? At the drop of a switch ? Immediately. Gas.

Dealing with rats in subfloor void

    I don't think they give a S*** or even s*** :)

Dealing with rats in subfloor void

Poison. Not the blocks but granules. The smell goes in a few days and so not an issue at all. I've been renovating a house with a mate. We've left tons of the stuff everywhere as a house-warming present for rats.

Replacement Boilers & Building regs….Sneaky NASTY rule change?

Because the idea of a high thermal mass building is to use it effectively as a heat store. But if you stick 4" of Kingspan in a studwall partition that you've then fixed to the inside of that stonewall then your thermal mass is no longer helping.

Replacement Boilers & Building regs….Sneaky NASTY rule change?

It depends on which side you put the insulation ! If you stick on the inside of those stone walls then you've defeated the object....DAMHIKT.

Very large panel glue up, advice needed

Switch off your mobile. Put on some nice calming classical music. Lock the door and stick up a sign "Do NOT disturb". Get everything ready, clamps etc. Run through the step in your mind. Do a dry fit with some sanded down Domino's. How are you going to stop them bowing up when you clamp...

Replacement Boilers & Building regs….Sneaky NASTY rule change?

I do know of one guy who reasoned thus (oilfired boiler applies). There is a pre-purge phase which wastes oil and then a post-purge phase so why not have a nice long burn and store that heat somewhere. Like a well-insulated storage tank. You then turn the boiler off and draw down the heat...

Replacement Boilers & Building regs….Sneaky NASTY rule change?

I'm intrigued why keeping the boiler running reduces fuel consumption. Not doubting anyone...just trying to get my head round as to why. EDIT: Quick Google shows that it's not the same for everyone and depends on how well insulated your house is...
