    Circularising Aluminium Pipe!

Circularising, circularising, why would you want to do the other thing to an aluminium tube! Too early on a day off and eyes not working.

    Shed build, many many questions...

That’s a pretty cool look, interesting solution for cladding. The battens give an attachment point for the cladding and create a air gap that can dry out is water penetrates the cladding which is just a ‘rain screen’. With corrugated steel being impermeable you may argue that there will be no...

    Basic Boxes

They are great! Boxes are still on my to do list, I’ve tried dovetails a few times but not been happy, they need some dedicated practice time. One day.

    2022 Secret Santa

I think we may need to go door to door rustling up business soon folks!

    Saving fuel

This is up there with sharpening, research 'hypermiling'. Most of my miles are on the same route to and from the office. On a route you know well you can drastically improve your MPG. Route tis mostly 30/40 zones around the periphery of the town, with T-lights and roundabouts. Route is...

What beam size do I need ?

7.5m is a long span, I think you are going to need a proper sizing calc. I think you'll also find it is deeper than you would like as a flat/low pitched roof will load up the span. Look at Beams - Supported at Both Ends - Continuous and Point Loads and you can play with some numbers. I think the...

    Cladding suppliers?

Annoying that no local sawmill will work with you. I get larch cladding from a place I consider local (70miles away) for £1.10+vat for 150x20. It’s considerably cheaper than anything else in the local area. They are not on Facebook of eBay and I have to ring and speak with them, so oldschool ;)...

OMG, "it don't 'arf pen and ink"

I've not lived in proper farming country for 30 years but I can still smell the smell in my mind's eye.

    Calling all New Joiners

Haha, that got your attention! Secret Santa is one of the best things we do every year, but it needs participation from forum members to be a success. To participate you can either, make something, buy something, steal something from your shed/workshop, or repurpose something you already have...

    Feeling old

That's an 'in joke' that you need to have been around this site for a few years to appreciate and sympathise with. I've often been humbled by what members of this site are up to at the age that they are, i loved the person a few months back who was going to take up woodworking at 85, bloody...

Just my own design but want a black frame. I’d seen India ink mentioned in my research, may have to get some and try it out for comparison.

Trying to help my retired joiner dad

Tooling is the different sized and shaped bits that cut the wood. For a drill, tooling would be the drill bits. For the morticer it's the different sized chisels and drills that cut the mortice holes. For the spindle moulder is the different sized cutting blocks and cutters. Mortice Tooling...

I’m going to build my brother a desk for his 50th. Frame will be ebonised oak, starting to test how the process works. Pretty happy using Richard Maguire’s method, with Osmo over the top.

    Hydraulic Panel Clamp

A long way from most but seems like a bargain for anyone who makes lots of large panels and has mountains of space. Building a workshop in an old stone built barn

I'd have only put pieces of dpm under each leg then lifted them and stapled to the leg. Additional to avoiding low points it would also let the floor breath from drafts under your floor.

    Don't forget!

Obviously, I'm far too law abiding to do such a thing. I still feel guilty for the 2p sweet i shoved down my sock in Fryer's news agency as a boy in about 1978.

Trying to help my retired joiner dad

In my opinion there is a sweet point in the sale of old machinery. Too small and flimsy and folks aren't interested as it's not worth the risk that it'll be in poor condition, too big and folks aren't interested as it is too hard to move and power. Looking at the tools you have I think the kit...

    Don't forget!

I've been saving electricity under my bed for the last month, so I can use it next month when it is more expensive. Otherwise known as putting in a higher meter reading than actual. Do you think anyone will notice? ;)
