Refelt or other cover my 8 x 16 shed roof?

I'm an EPDM convert. Once the roof is cleared of old material it's no more than 1/2 a day to glue the deck, roll out the EPDM and brush down, and nail on the edge profiles. The brushing it flat to get the air bubbles out is the hardest bit and difficult to do without standing on the roof. The...

Storing Machines In A Temporary Garage

If they are old and worn out and require an overhaul then a temporary solution is likely not an issue, you just have a bit more clean-up. If they are newer machines in good condition I think there is significant risk of making a mess of them in a short time, a few weeks/months. If the deal was...

Flashing back edge of log store slate roof.

I'm assuming you mean something like this, but the slate is on a freestanding log store. If your flashing does not have a connection to the wall with some effort to seal between wall and flashing then I wouldn't bother. Without this seal any moisture/rain on the wall will run behind the flashing...

    Maguire Pin Less Leg Vice

Another interpretation of why it is called a leg vice is that it is attached to the leg. In the same book as your diagram is from "L'art du mensuisier" there are also workbenches with 'leg vices' that do not reach the floor.

    Maguire Pin Less Leg Vice

That’s an interesting thought @Jacob. I’ve read lots about leg vices and never come across that rational. I can see the merits of the idea though.

    Recommended size for new workshop

5x5 sounds great I have 5.8x2.9 internal and I wish I had an extra meter on the shorter dimension. Then I could have machines across the width not just along the length.

    Attaching Sash cords

My sash windows (Aberdeen) have a large screw into the side of the stile that an eye in the cord hooks over and a recess for the cord, number 9 or 10 screw. I tie a figure of 8 knot in the end and hook it over, it's quite a large knot but this works to hold the window fractionally away from the...

    Kity 1619 capacitors

It's odd that there are two, perhaps someone has previously replaced and used two smaller rather than one larger! Capacitors add capacitance when used in parallel so if this were the case you need 50mF in total. when I have replaced a capacitor I've just ordered a start/run capacitor with the...

    Maguire Pin Less Leg Vice

After a bunch of research I came to the conclusion that a linear bearing system couldn’t work effectively on its own. The idea is that as you tighten on a board of set thickness it causes the vice to try and rack, or go out of square, the stiffness in the linear bearing bar resists the racking...

Wadkin Knife setting jig for BAO/S 12

The other Alan was last on Dec 2023. His projection is correct as the cutting circle and block size are the diameter, whereas the blade projection is in addition to the radius, so is half/double depending on how you think about it.

    Using AI For Inspiration

I think they are great ideas to step off of. Making them precisely i see as fraught with difficulty, i don't think wood grain structure works the same in real life as in most of the images.

    Tree in a tree!

Being exceptionally skeptical of anything on the internet that seems out of the ordinary I had to do some googling on this. I can happily report this one seems to be true with plenty of other evidence, seems to be in spain and searching "Pino-Roble de Canicosa de la Sierra Burgos" brings lots of...

    Battery Fire Risks

You made me think! A bit of googling and the level of actual incidents is very low, although growing. The majority seem to be from large battery devices, scooters, ebikes etc and most of them during charging. Many fire services provide similar guidance to avoid scenarios where: Batteries...

Buying advice - multitool, random orbital sander and router

Multitool I have a bosch £50ish jobbie. Always found it adequate for it's job. Corded but a cordless would be lovely. Sander, I have an expensive £250 bosch, replaced a £60ish unit. I would never go back as the vibrations on the cheap one were horrid. Router, I have a cordless palm router...

    So it happened.........what next

Even knowing it was coming it will be a shock. You sound a bit like me in how you work, your loyalty to your team, and desire to help others achieve. To be pushed out from this environment will feel horrible. What's important to remember is that whilst is is personal, it's happened to you, it is...
