Is it possible to maintain a camber on the jack plane indefinitely

That is a good idea, but I should scribe the line instead of marking it, because I would immediately erase it when removing the burr.

Is it possible to maintain a camber on the jack plane indefinitely

Hi Jacob, This is exactly what I did. I discovered this sideway sharpening method as I have seen it mentioned somewhere on the internet and figured out that I can achieve a burr faster this way. Maybe I was not twisting enough so I have honed off the middle of the blade quicker, so it became...

Is it possible to maintain a camber on the jack plane indefinitely

Good evening, Disclaimer: This is not a pure sharpening thread about what technique is the best for splitting atoms with the blade, so only popcorns up to 300 ml in volume are allowed. I am grinding a camber on my jack plane with a rather pronounced radius on a bench grinder for fast wood...

    Multiple question thread

It has some mixed reviews on amazon Rabbet Plane, Hand Wood Planer DIY Plough Plane Slot Grooving Wood Plane Shoulder Plane Adjustable Hand Plane for Carpenter Woodcarver with 5 Planer Blades - - Amazon.com But I think it would be worth it just for the irons alone. I can build myself another...

    Multiple question thread

Thank you Just4Fun, I may give Stanley spokeshaves a try and I will get both flat and round bottom for half the price of a single Veritas spokeshave. I do know know how much I will use spokeshaves, so that is why I want to buy a functional, but not so great looking spokeshave instead of Boggs...

    Multiple question thread

Hello, I just want to save this forum's space, so I will ask multiple questions here that I am dealing with now. If you would like to answer any of my questions, feel free to refer to them by their number in your answers. Thank you very much. 1. What is the difference in usage between card...

Did you buy any cheap tools that surprised you with being actually good?

Does anyone have experience with Lidl's bandsaw?

Did you buy any cheap tools that surprised you with being actually good?

Thank you David, I have 24 grit Bosch wheel that came with my 6" grinder and also I have bought the T shaped wheel dresser from China as well. Actually I have found no diamonds left on the dresser when it arrived.

Did you buy any cheap tools that surprised you with being actually good?

Hello, This is just a pool question. Did you buy anything that was relatively cheap (e.g. from big box store) that surprised you being a quality product? By quality I mean that it was perfectly usable for the intended purpose (maybe with minor tweaking). It does not need to have a superior...

    DIY Clamps

Thank you. That is a good idea. However, I have 3x 750 mm clamps, 2x 450 mm clamps and 6x 300 mm clamps and a few of other types, so I will not get 4x 1200 mm + out of them, but I will buy a couple of couplers for the future.

    DIY Clamps

Thank you. High Tatras were devastated by a whirlwind 19.11.2004, so they looked completely different before that time. You can see the video of the disaster here

    DIY Clamps

Thank you. I can buy similar sets at fine-tools in Germany for 19,20 EUR /set

    Shooting board doesn’t work properly.

Rubbing the end grain with alcohol helps softening the fibers. For me the thicker the wood, the more problematic is to get good results with shooting board. I am currently shooting 50 mm boards and it is hard to get acceptable results. But reducing the depth of cut also helps not hitting the...

    DIY Clamps

Hi Tom, I have started to make a toy cabinet that is 1200 mm wide, so I need to clamp that distance while gluing, but maybe I will need to clamp it only on the height side, which is 300 mm and I have plenty of quick grip clamps for that distance. In case I need to clamp also 1200 mm, I would...

    DIY Clamps

They are lovely, but they would involve some metalworking, for which I do not have tools. So besides bolts and nuts, I would stay with the wood. But the design looks very good and I can maybe do similar ones with wood.

    DIY Clamps

No problem :) If I were to buy clamps, I can buy body clamps around 25-30 Eur/piece for 1200 mm length.

    DIY Clamps

I have seen several videos on youtube as well as read Robert's Wearing Resourceful Woodworker and Making Woodworking Aids and devices. I have started this thread to find out if someone has a good experience with any particular model, not to find any DYI clamp. That I can do myself on the internet.

    DIY Clamps

Hello, I have several quick grip clamps 300 - 750 mm, but for serious work, it will not be enough. I would need some body clamps as well. In videos almost everyone has Bessey clamps, but 100 EUR per clamp is a little bit steep for me. I have already bought a lot of woodworking tools last...

    Workbench Vice advice

No, it was not moving freely, definitely not sliding easily. I would assume that there are 4 plain bearings inside the circular holder of the plain rods. or maybe there are not and there is a friction metal to metal, which would be really bad, but they would save 5 € for the bearings. My...
