If its going to be scrapped then there is nothing to lose in playing around with it. strip it down for major clean. Alcohol bath, and ultrasonic cleaner, worked well for me on my hp's. I dare say there is a button battery somewhere on pcb, worth changing that too.

araldite might fill the cavity but from my experience, not good on metal.

my only advise, alternate the boards vai end grain. Growth rings up on one board down on the other. Plane in and biscuit.

Have you considered oils? Danish.

Joiner by trade, I personally cut all the mortice and tenons before any moulding.
