    Heating thermostat in the hallway

I'm sorry I cant accept - Another room has become cooler saving some money in that room, however we are looking to achieve a constant set temperature in the adjacent room {B} but this now requires more energy to maintain our set temperature as the heat loss from this room has increased due to...

    Heating thermostat in the hallway

Perhaps I did not explain that bit very clearly. The energy required to heat water is, i think is as follows - The specific heat of water is 4182 J/(kg*°C). That means that it takes 4182 Joules to heat 1 kg of water by 1°C. So to heat our litre of cold water from 10 Degrees to 50 Degrees we are...

    Heating thermostat in the hallway

Yep, more layers is a good option, but its each to their own and I cant see many of the occupiers of the Victorian town houses in Cheltenham rushing to the cashmere drawer quite yet !

    Heating thermostat in the hallway

There is simply no magic one size fits all for this conversation. First things first if you want to cut heating bills then you need to understand how your house loses heat and how much ( a proper heat loss calculation will tell you) You also need to understand how you use and interact with your...

Will smart meters be used for the rolling blackouts?

I think that's what's been happening over the last few years already. They are apparently no longer maintainable due to age and expected life span of certain elements etc. There may be nothing really wrong with them but our thankfully cautious nuclear industry can only bend, reasses and rewrite...

Will smart meters be used for the rolling blackouts?

Not only have EV's been in the pipeline for years but the Nuclear Industry have been telling the government for over 10 years that their ageing fleet of power stations would be winding down generation in 10 years time and replacements should be planned and contruction started. Alas the...

    Your Favourite Tape Measure(s)

My vote goes to the Bahco MTS-5-25-E 5mtr long. The blade lock is opposite to many, so the blade stays out unless you push the big orange button. Strong magnetic hook end and generally I just find them a perfect size for me to hold and use. Black on silver markings are also easy to read and If...

Damp Problem - I'm not sure what to do...

Hopefully you will have discovered the culprit with the Central Heating losing pressure. One thing to note (In my opinion ;) ) - If you have copper pipes rising from the floor they should be mechanically separated from any tile adhesive and or cement / floor screed. Modern copper is woefully...

Damp Problem - I'm not sure what to do...

Nice. But alas your somewhat behind the curve on the up to date science of 'rising damp' When your finished researching your beliefs on the flat earth 🤣 you may wish to re-evalute your understanding of 'rising damp'. It's arguably become one of the biggest rip offs in construction, and yes I do...

Damp Problem - I'm not sure what to do...

Redhunter350, please stop thinking Rising Damp. Quite simply "Rising Damp" is a myth. In order to work out likely cause there are a several questions to go through - 1) Prior to the damp first appearing, was this room just like it is now (new paint aside)? 2) Has anything changed in this room...

    Soldering question...

As has been said just be aware plumbing flux tends to be rather strong and can be both water soluble (easy clean) and not so easy! It will hopefully achieve what you want but should be neutralised or cleaned off to prevent future damage to the surrounding cone.

One for the domestic sparkies out there

AS others have said its now a common tactic for sellers to request purchase and installation and test dates for both the electrical installation & gas boilers. This information is usually then used by a buyer to negotiate a discount to the purchase price. i.e. they have offered £295000 but...

    Hi from Cheltenham

A new found interest in woodworking brings me here. I've always loved making stuff, but now with the availability of some pretty good, expensive and some pretty good not so expensive tools it's even easier to get creative. Still learning and looking forward to picking up some hints and tips...
