    18v tool brand choice

Most of mine are XR with brushes. Had them a good while now. I remember them introducing XR way back and at the time they were calling it extra rugged. They were first introduced on impact drivers and sabre saws I think

The 2023 Secret Santa - your last chance!

Well baring the finishing mines done. Pretty simple but I’m pleased with it and I hope the recipient will like it too. Hand tools only job and had a few challenges on the way, boy I’m out of practice. If the recipient puts a square on it I’ll claim it wasn’t supposed to be…

The 2023 Secret Santa - your last chance!

Disaster!! All the cutting went to plan but I then I realised I hadn’t dimensioned the timber for a major component. I’m now collapsed on the sofa after sawing and planing one board to size. One more to go. And there I was thinking I’m on the home straight.

MFT-style vs. Trad-style workbench design (is there a middle ground??)

MFT-style vs. Trad-style workbench design (is there a middle ground??)

I’ve got one of each. A traditional bench I built nearly 30 years ago which is still doing its job and the recent addition of an MFT cart. I’m finding the cart really useful as I can take it to where the job is rather than being confined to the workshop.

    Building a MFT

Nobody has said any different. It’s an aid to square, not straight. And yes it’s possible to cut square without a MFT but the MFT removes any ambiguity and adds repeatability.

    TV cookery....

One of the chefs on this week owns a restaurant near us. My wife ate there a month or two ago. It was not especially expensive and the food excellent. Fine dining, outside of London, doesn’t have to be expensive. A lot of private chefs do things like events, weddings etc. that’s a whole...

    Building a MFT

I’m a hobbyist but have made a fair few kitchen and bathroom cabinets using the system. It makes life very easy. For a professional for sure it’s going to save a lot of time. Of course it depends on what you are doing and how you are doing it. If you need it then it’s fantastic. If you don’t...

So that parts from different manufacturers work together. Is standardisation… https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/32_mm_cabinetmaking_system

    Building a MFT

The majority of European cabinet work is using a 32mm spacing. So everything is a multiple of 32. Hence the 96mm spacing. As you say though any consistent spacing is going to work just fine for generating right angles and straight lines.

    Rutlands black friday sale

I bought a door handle jig from them. Totally useless. Despite the many temptations they appear to offer I’m not buying from them again.
