How to make the lid/top and not screw up mitres

Another great idea which I am going to file for future use. My current box is made from spalted beech. I am going to struggle to find something suitable from another wood species.

How to make the lid/top and not screw up mitres

The bottom is not fixed. As you say, it has to be detachable for refilling. Do you happen to have any examples of what such fixings look like from the inside? I did consider using some sort of metal angle brackets for attaching the top, but I do not have anything suitable to hand, so I parked...

How to make the lid/top and not screw up mitres

This sounds brilliant. I am going to use this idea on my next box. For this particular one - I do not have enough material left to make 4 triangles. The box is rectangular. So I could cut two longer triangles from my existing lid panel, but won't be able to make two shorter ones.

How to make the lid/top and not screw up mitres

Indeed. That was one of my potential ideas in post #5

How to make the lid/top and not screw up mitres

Thank you for the clarification. I will keep this option in mind. My current idea is to resaw the top to a 5mm thickness and glue it in on the sides only, hoping that a panel this thin will not be able to overcome the thicker sides. We are almost in summertime, so the expansion of a 5mm thick...

How to make the lid/top and not screw up mitres

Indeed. Visually this would work great, but (unless I am misunderstanding) the wood movement would still be an issue. Thank you for the suggestion Pete. The way I understood your explanation, the top of the box will not be one horizontal surface because the moulding perimeter would be higher...

How to make the lid/top and not screw up mitres

I was making a box from spalted beech, got distracted, and glued up the walls too early without thinking of how I am going to attach the top. It is a tissue box holder and, due to the way it is going to be used, the top must either be fixed completely in place (not detachable) or sit inside...

Pointers to reading / learning please.

I am not a big OpenSCAD user but if I remember correctly there is no unit of length in OpenSCAD. Did a quick Google just now: Quote from the reddit thread linked above:

Pointers to reading / learning please.

AMS is a Bambu-specific feature - it swaps spools automatically, e.g., if you want to print with more than one colour or filament type. - as I wrote above, it is not really necessary On A1 printers, it looks like the part in red. More expensive Bambu printers have a different-looking version...

Pointers to reading / learning please.

Hello @pe2dave When it comes to asking a question - Reddit is your friend: https://www.reddit.com/r/3Dprinting/ or brand-specific subreddits: e.g. Bambu https://www.reddit.com/r/BambuLab/ e.g. Prusa https://www.reddit.com/r/prusa3d/ I know you did not explicitly ask for it, but I will...

    Forstner Drill Bits

Answer: It does work (not as clean cut as dedicated size bit) - but it is sca-a-a-a-ry. I only use it when I can't figure out any other way of doing the hole.

    Convertible Mitre/Table Saws: any good?

These saws are designed for rough mobile carpentry where a few millimetres or degrees off here and there do not matter. One frequently missing feature is that in table saw configuration, the blade is always at a 90(ish) degree angle to the table, with no ability to mitre cut lengthwise. I'd be...

    Jigsaws

there was a thread related to Mafell P1 review couple of years ago - some P1 owners participated. https://www.ukworkshop.co.uk/threads/the-rolls-royce-of-jigsaws-mafell-p1cc.138779/ - you could ask these members to see if their opinion of the tool has changed.

Spalted beech - what to make?

When I acquired a similar size spalted birch - I converted it into a couple of tissue boxes.

Holzmann TS200 or Bosch gts 10xc

Out of interest - where did you find the information stating that Bosch gts 10xc has induction motor? This does not sound right.

Budget mitre saw with forward facing rails

Unless you get very lucky, I seriously doubt that £250 will afford you a tool capable of cutting reliable and accurate mitres suitable for multi segment items. DWS773 was mentioned a couple of time above, so I thought I would share my experience with it. I purchased the DeWalt DWS774 (DWS773...

    Camvac live video youtube now

Nice presentation. I own a Camvac and have learnt a few things. Perhaps worth mentioning that the weird link above actually goes to youtube, no funny business:

    3D printer location

My 3D printer sits next to my desk, covered from dust when not in use. If I had another printer (or if mine was too noisy and I had space in the garage), then I would definitely consider leaving the printer in the garage, provided it is fully covered from elements and crawling things when not...

Rotary tool... Dremel or something else?

Instead of struggling with oval shaped holes - consider a Battery Holder. Below is a picture of what I used for the exact purpose you described - I bought mine on eBay for £2.29 - other configurations are available (flat/one-level or different number of batteries) In addition to the Battery...

    125mm pad on a 150mm sander?

Don't have an answer to your question, @justinpeer, but as an owner of the SXE 450, I am also curious to know if a 125mm pad works on this machine. My only reservation would relate to the SXE 450's weight - it may be too heavy for a 125mm pad and potentially unstable. Either way, if you decide...
