    Patterns for pyrography

Ash is quite a tricky choice, esp to start with. It has quite pronounced winter / summer growth rings so different density wood that burn differently. I’d recommend starting with something more even grained - sycamore, beech perhaps. Quality birch ply is useful for practice. Simon.

    Chuck

Looks like quite a comprehensive set for the money. Only negative I would say from looking is that there looks to be quite a jump between a spigot the standard jaws would hold and that the larger jaws would hold with the former being quite small, not sure if an intermediate size are available...

    Little general purpose workshop mallet

Never heard that before but thanks for sharing. Think I’ll stick to the yellow honing stick that came with my flexcut stuff but if it runs out and I’m stuck for a sharp edge.....🤔

    Woodturning spindle blanks.

Worth a email but I suspect treated fence posts will be pine. Untreated oak posts are also available. Both may be expected to crack (or even delivered with checking) are part of the character of the item. As far as I know, sycamore is not used for exterior garden structure but it maybe...

    Airbrushing Kits for turned work

No problem, that’s what these forums are all about really. Not saying every bit of advice is 100% right or certainly not the only way of doing something, but I’m happy to share what I have or do that works for me. Ok. I’ve not had time to look up the specific details of the ones you like to...

    Axminster Hobby AC370WL recommended?

I started turning on one of these (on an earlier incarnation) and really liked it - and definitely used it more than 2 hrs / week. Others have mentioned the limitations- a couple of hours with a fine file can definitely tidy the casing machining up, a decent box shelf in the stand with breeze...

    Little general purpose workshop mallet

Yes, nut is threaded on (but more for security of fixing than to replace when worn. Whilst I hope I’ve got a fair few decades still to go, not sure I’m going to wear through a M33 steel nut but who knows!) simon

    Little general purpose workshop mallet

Made little workshop / carving mallet today. First time I tried the wire wool & vinegar mix to dye oak - worked really well. Head of mallet is a polished up M33 nut Simon

    Airbrushing Kits for turned work

They are not special at all. They were about £90 for all six, in box delivered! Like these without silly postage charge. No idea of needle size as only use them for spirit stains but would estimate 0.35mm on how they paint. Set of 6 Siphon Dual-Action AIRBRUSH KIT Hobby Temporary Tattoo...

    Airbrushing Kits for turned work

I use airbrushing quite a lot. id advocate dual action- much more control, esp for smaller pieces. I have a set of six from eBay that have siphon fed bottles underneath I keep for use with chestnut spirt stains. I then have a couple of top fed (only need smallest resovior) I use to do work...

    3D printing in Woodturning

Folks, had a go making and using some 3D printed chuck jaws this weekend and worked out very well. not sure I’d want to grip a 14” wet log with them but for some out of balance necklace pendants they worked really well. these were at about the bed capacity of my noddy printer but makes you...

    BGK-400

Mark - it may be the angle but it appears you have the gouge tip very close to the jig. In the tormek the protrusion of the tool tip beyond the jig is between 55-75mm and I believe other jigs are in similar range. Simon

    BGK-400

i have exactly same arrangement as Paul. Clone tormek jigs are fine except gouge jig where tormek is head n shoulders better than all the rest.
