Calling all vacuum press users - is this big enough?

And with all the above in mind, you'll at least double your money if it is no good for your application as it would be perfect for someone I'm sure. S

    New, with a skew...

Or..... A reasonable size bowl gouge ground with swept back wings does just as well, can't remember last time I used my roughing gouge now and will be a good deal more versatile (but alas probably more expensive also!). Simon

Jet Wetstone sharpener - stone retained nut rusted on

Thanks - I wonder if the unit went through several versions as the shaft on mine appears as badly corroded as the nut - doesn't look like stainless to me. S

    Chronos Faceplates

Thanks Paul - I didn't know that. I guess my Q is whether the 34mm register is 'standard' as a faceplate threaded full depth would not go over it and therefore will not sit true.

Jet Wetstone sharpener - stone retained nut rusted on

Mick, That is sort of my main reason for wanting to address the problem. As I said, there is loads of life left in the wheel but I don't want corrosion of the shaft in the bore to prematurely cause the wheel to fail through the building up of forces as rust is of course more volumonous than the...

    Chronos Faceplates

Has anyone bought a faceplate from Chronos? I have a Vicmarc which has a M33/3.5 thread but also has a 34 mm dia X 9mm lg register before the faceplace would sit against the vertical face of the register. Photos below show both the spindle geometry and an existing faceplate with a...

    Secret Santa 2015 wash up

Folks, Well, once again what a great collection of lovely and different things folks have gifted each other. Thank you to all who took part - I think there are one or two out there yet to post their pictures, don't be shy we'd all like to see them. I've not heard anyone has been without a...

Jet Wetstone sharpener - stone retained nut rusted on

Folks, I've got a Jet wet wheel sharpener and through poor material choice but Jet and a lack of TLC by me, the retaining nut has rusted on. There is plenty of life left in the stone but I would like to be able to remove the stone and lubricate underneath as I have a concern that because it is...

Picking up the pieces of life - back to the workshop!

As others have said, sorry for your loss. Whilst it seems somewhat secondary, I do like this piece you've turned and it is a fab piece of timber. Chestnut's finishing oil, when applied as per instructions and built to 7 or 8 coats, gives a wonderful deep satin gloss finish that will not mess...

    The Experiment

I think this is a really nice piece of decoration and you should be 'well chuffed' with yourself for the outcome achieved. The internal bowl is also turned and finished well and looks the part. If I were to offer one thought for the next one, it would be to consider / refine the outside...

Advice on the Record Power DML or CL range

My views on record here: post592494.html?hilit=Record#p592494 In summary, I'd buy elsewhere but that is down to personal preference. As many of said, even as an occasional turner, a visit to a local club will be very informative and is to be recommended if you have the time. Simon

    Golf storage

Nice job but agree with above. If nothing else, the outside 'damp' will result in rust spotted shafts in no time, esp if put away damp. Is there provision for any air circulation? S

Head's up - Holtey / Norris etc planes in Pugh catalogue 9/1

Folks, Quick head's up - there is a thread in the general forum on the 9/1/16 Pugh auction, thought some folks here would be interested to know amongst the ordinary there are a small number of treasures in there. (Normal disclaimer- no vested interest, just trying to be helpful!) Simon

    Pugh's Mega-Auction Sat 9th January Ledbury

Quite a mixed bag of tools! Everything from top end Holtey planes (interesting to see what they go for!) to a whole heap of car boot tat (but maybe one man's rubbish ........). Have fun to all those going and be lucky! Simon

Alcohol dye compared to spirit stain

Hi all My wife does a range of glass work and is interested in using a product type called an alcohol dye as part of her work. I have loads of spirit stain and while I know we could just try, does anyone know the difference between these two products? Thanks Simon
