    Tool rest holder

In pic 1 above, there appears to be quite a gap on the right of the banjo socket the tool rest is located in. Is this the case of just a shadow in the photo? Simon

Scrapers - negative rake or traditional grind?

As the title says really - what do you use and why? Simon

    Coloured pencil bowl

Only issue with the wax where there are pores (such as burrs and I guess this), is that it dries white over time where it collects in the pores and looks naff. I'd suggest finishing oil build up with several layers or for quick decrotave finish a Matt or gloss acrylic lacquer. Great project...

    Hollowing tools

Richard, Do you actually mean hollowing tools or is your question relating to the trend to have tipped bars in the place of conventional tools? S

Has anyone bought new jaws for one of these ?

Pratt are a well respected brand in the metal tuning / hobby engineering world. In your place I'd be o it with the ooo wire wool, tidy it up and the offer it here followed by ebay and put the money towards a unit designed for wood. Either way, great gift! Simon

Anyone need a capable bandsaw - Bargin

Just noticed the circular saw blade leaning against the wall in the background. Now that's a table saw (wonder if they do a dado set in that size :norm:). S

    First post...

Hi BT, As you'll see from my profile, I'm in Nailsworth, not far from Stroud. I'm not a prof turner (as like you have a full time job in an engineering dominated company) but have been amateur / hobby turning for almost 10 yrs on and off. I'd be happy to spend a day on weekend or coupe of...

    Union Jubilee Lathe thread adaptor

If I owned the chuck I'd go for option 3, if you're only being offered it then I'd probably pass and bite the bullet to get one with an insert (to able to change at a later date if reqd). S

Anyone need a capable bandsaw - Bargin

Saw this any thought of you!!! https://www.ebay.co.uk/ulk/itm/152032151228 Wow, just wow! Can just imagine SHMBO's face as the estate car rolls up the drive with the tailgate lashed down with some blue poly, her best bra hanging off the end to warn motorists of the slightly protruding load...

My old Sealey SM42 vs my new CL4 - Review

Thanks for taking the time to do this comprehensive write up. I started turning with a Clarke lathe which is very similar to the Sealey you describe. As you say, enough to 'have a go' without silly outlay but the upgrade is both welcome and noticeable! Happy turning, Simon

The new (ish) Axy Evolution Chuck - any opinions from owners

Have a look carefully at the o'don jaws. They have their uses but do have some limitations: + points Allow work to stand-off face of chuck so give all round access (when did you last NEED this - honest now.....?!) Range of sizes to suit to different projects - points Slimmer dovetail than...

Vacuum Chucking - Poll to understand usage

Graham, I recently did a write-up on the homemade vac chucks I have here: homemade-vac-chuck-chuck-options-warning-picture-heavy-t96780.html All simple / easy to make. I was planning to go down the faceplate route with the inexpensive units Chronos advertise but they were not able to provide...

The new (ish) Axy Evolution Chuck - any opinions from owners

Not got an evo chuck but do have a couple of the preceding super precision versions. I am a firm believer in that something used as often as this, the 'quality remains long after the price is forgotten' mantra (or similar) applies. As for weight, the difference over other similar offerings...

Vacuum Chucking - Poll to understand usage

Following my mini article on Vac chucks I wrote, putting the cart before the horse I thought it would be interesting to gauge interest / usage. Tried to cover options with a useable number of poll choices but please comment / post below to expand if you have a view. Thanks, Simon.

    Castle Box

Hi K, I posted on this when I made it here. Worth reading all thread as there are several useful hints and also you will see both my prototype lash up and the 'mounted production version' on the second page! The only mod I have made since is to replace the power supply for a 250W unit as I was...
