    Large (ish) hollow form

Great, when Lewis was 3 and a bit we got him one of these. They are not bad to make balsa projects and are a great intro to woodworking. https://www.amazon.co.uk/d/Shops/John-A ... kshop+wood Happy woodworking! Simon

Help needed to set these router bits?

Paul, Sorry if it is teaching granny to suck eggs, but essential to know these larger cutters can only be used in a table, never freehand routing. S

    Large (ish) hollow form

Depends on age / temperament etc I suppose but I regularly work with my lad in the workshop. He's just 5 and doesn't like the noisy machines but is quite happy to sit at the bench sanding or painting while I turn. Also quite confident using scroll saw and very small (2") disc sander. We have...

    Large (ish) hollow form

So, end of Friday. Turned to rough shape and hollowed. Buried in pile of shavings overnight hoping it doesn't crack. Tomorrow is refine shape, and out with the colours! Pics show key steps, cleanup (with supervision from jr), and of course tools / lathe cleaned and oiled and everything was...

Record CL3 - new or new old stock?

Matt, Apols if you've said earlier, but what is you preferred type of turning? If it is mainly spindle work then go for either and poss the record gives you more between centres for your money. If it is larger or out of balance faceplate work such as bowl or hollow forms then for me a big lump...

    A Collaberation

Admittedly not a huge amount of turning in this other than a small off centre mini bowl but my wife does kiln formed glass and asked me to make a base for one of her drop vases. Thought I'd share here. BRgds Simon

    Have you seen this?

I think this thread is an example of the reason - we're all looking and discussing their products. Job done! (At those prices can't think the bottom line will notice much!). Simon

Novice considering tackling chunkier pieces...advice please

No! I don't normally post on Internet forums to say someone is wrong a often it is all opinion / perspective which is fine but this is both wrong and dangerous. Toolwise, a spindle roughing gouge is fine or a stout bowl gouge with swept wings but for someone who is starting out I'd suggest...

    CBN wheels

As above. I've tried all sorts of grinders, 6", 8" with white, ruby, blue wheels over the years. All were ok but I've settled on a 6" crusen slow speed machine with a course white wheel for reshaping and a cbn for general sharpening and I'm a very happy bunny now and don't think I'll be changing...

    Hello - Newbie from Scotland

Welcome. Grab a glass of wine and put an evening aside for a trawl with the search facility on here as it is very good and there is much info here. Tools wise, any of the name brands are good (Henry Taylor, Sorby, hamlet, crown) and Axminster do some very nice own brand tools that are made...
