    Dust collector - remote control

I have my Dx socket wired through a elec shower pull switch with an extended pull running horizontally across ceiling height so I can reach up and pull it from anywhere in workshop. Quick n cheap (but would not work if your dx has a nvr). Simon

How stable is green sweet chesthut

Agreed. 10% of diameter is the rule,of thumb i use, so 400mm is close to 40mm wall to guarantee a decent thickness and round shape when returning. S

Newby question: re-truing a piece of work

Other option is to mount / hollow lid, mount base and hollow leaving tight fit and then re-skim base and press fitted top as a unit before finish turning base of base!

Need Lamello Top 10 Biscuit joiner spare parts

Wow, 90's, how time flies. I'd of guessed I saw this 4 / 5 yrs ago! Thanks for the update (less so for making me feel even older!) Simon :|

Need Lamello Top 10 Biscuit joiner spare parts

As an aside, I seem to remember seeing this product advertised not that many years ago and at the price point it occupied, I am surprised and feel a bit disappointed for you that spares are an issue this quickly. So, sympathy more than help. Is this short backup period typical or is it a known...

Finishing mounting dovetail socket before chucking?

As Chas says, the chuck jaws will leave whiteness marks so even if your not planning to reverse to remove chucking point, I'd leave plain and then hand dress out the whiteness will a bit of 100 grit and up when you're done and finish then. Nice project btw! S

How do YOU use cellulose sanding sealer?

I use it before the final grit of abrasive so typically 120, 180, 240, 320, SS, 400 / grey mesh & then finish from there. S

Newby question: re-truing a piece of work

As an aside, one thing you may wish to look at is how the piece was mounted in the chuck. The 'strength' of the mounting is down to the face of the jaw against the vertical face of the mount rather than the tenon in the chuck. This shows the key points better than I can explain in text...

    Pyrograghy

Have a look at top of second page, that's as good as it gets I'm afraid, functional but not beautiful! I don't think I can really sell these as they will not earn many Kite marks or CE certification but they are super easy to make and as ever, you have mains 240v (input at least) and heat so...

    lathe jaws/chucks

Don't worry, we're not in the US (yet). I think the relevant Case law can be found with reference to Darwin vs Brave! S

    C.H. Joyce Drill Press

I don't think these belts are designed to run tight and I guess sliding it to allow for easier belt replacement? Not sure, nice project though! S

    Wood Turning Tools

Horses for courses really. Roughing down a log the decent leverage is needed, finishing foot them obviously less of a deal. I use a HT 5/8" HS1 bowl gouge for most tasks and just vary the length to the job. Simples! S

Bronze phosphor bearing play ?? Do I need a new one

No direct experience, but if there is play when tension applied, implies either shaft or bearing bore is elliptical. Can you disassemble and inspect / mic? S

    Homemade Lathe

Depending on the thread pitch, you may be into adaptor or plain bore machined territory I'm afraid, as M20 is not common in Woodturning and iirc standard M20 course is 2.5mm pitch. This table is pretty comprehensive as a reference...

    Homemade Lathe

In terms of a piece coming off the lathe, I would suggest a basic full face visor like this one will be fine: http://www.axminster.co.uk/axminster-fm952-safety-visor-500080 I think the contrivance your describing with mesh etc is likely to get in your way, catch the end of a tool handle and...
