Turning Day in aid of Children with Cancer UK 9th Feb 2019

Mark, Thanks for donating your time once again for this great cause. I’ve messaged Jamie, my Dad and I are up for it if there are places still available. BRgds Simon

    Homage to Max Brosi

At the recent AWGB seminar I really enjoyed watching a demo and talking to the Irish sculptural turner Max Brosi. He does some great work that is really different - one such series he has done mimics whale vertebrae such as is shown here. Following his demo I’ve managed to finish off a piece...

Bandsaw blade ‘fore / aft’ pulse

No, it’s not obviously at weld and seems to be more than once per revolution although difficult to tell (and does it with all blades I have that are from mixture of APTC and Tuffsaw so unlikely all wrong). :? S

Bandsaw blade ‘fore / aft’ pulse

Folks, I’ve got an issue with my bandsaw where the blade ‘surges’ fore / aft. I’ve got decent blades from Ian at Tuffsaw and have watched the Alex snodgrass (sp?) advice on setting guides etc. Short 20 sec clip of issue here Any tips / suggestions to resolve this as it is fine while hacking...

    Lathe died: Jet1221VS Error E8.

My Dad has a 1628 and is really chuffed with it. The extra 1/2hp is well worthwhile for the larger swing, esp if you ever envisage doing tasks like bowl coring etc where 1 hp is not really enough. We were also pleased to see the quality of the ground finish on bed - not seen the K to compare...

Wood Burning - Lichtenberg transformer - Cancel This!

Worth noting AWGB advice / position on this. Any piece decorated in this way is not allowed for show under AWGB banner / clubs. However, given you’re duly warned and a big boy now, there are plenty of ‘how to’ videos on YouTube that show you how to go about it. Simon

Unusual auction item - business for sale!

Not sure why but the computer decided I might be interested in buying an engineering business: The link is here Interesting way to market it but why not I suppose. For those with your own business here, I couldn’t make much sense of a £20k valuation for a business turning over £90k pa with a...

Small wood mini lathes... anyone had one?

Well done! Look forward to seeing many and varied interesting projects soon then.......

Small wood mini lathes... anyone had one?

Glad you’ve decided on the way forward - APTC have a good reputation for customer service and always stand behind their kit so if peace of mind is a factor for you then you can’t go far wrong. I too bought a RP chuck when I started to go with a Ax lathe. Worked great and was nice piece of kit...

Small wood mini lathes... anyone had one?

Not suggesting you buy this or it is even near you but I think this is the sort of ‘used but good’ lathe / type package you may like to consider. Lathe package for sale on well know site here

    New Axminster Tools Catalogue Relaunch

I spoke to the rep at the recent AWGB seminar. I think same size - reason to drop power tools was how dynamic the market / prices are for these especially that made an annual price difficult to support. They have in the past done some ‘special’ mini-catalogues (engineering machinery etc). Not...

Small wood mini lathes... anyone had one?

As others have said, if you’re thinking of investing £200 ish to see if you like the hobby then I’d buy used every time. You’ll get a lot more machine for your money, may get some accessories included (that all add up when you buy them new), and if all else fails and you don’t like is someone...

    Oak Bowl

I like it. I especially like the graduated size of the butterflies - a really nice and well thought out design detail. Thanks for sharing, Simon

    Draper WTL12A

I assume from your post that the MT1 fittings are too big? This is the size chart for MT fittings which may help: If it is indeed a small fitting then any converter will have to stick out quite some way (and indeed may be a ‘special’ you’d have to commission which may cost quite a bit since...

Secret Santa 2018 Pictures here, please (page nine start).

I think, like hand made stuff, it comes down to what you think your recipient might like based on the type of posts they make (and trying to infer some insight!). Over the years I’ve had all sorts - one year I was super blown away as I got a Henry Taylor decorating elf tool, spare burrs, coving...

Anyone want to swap a skew chisel? NOW DONE

I’ve ended up with two skew chisels - both are 3/4” oval section tools. I’d like a normal rectangular section one - anyone fancy a swap? Can post pics etc if anyone is interested. Thanks Simon

thinking of getting record power remounting jaws mega

If you’re referring to Cole jaws then they are fine for light cuts to remove chucking marks etc but do not provide sufficient hold to actually turn a bowl with. Perhaps not the answer you wanted but hopefully helpful. Simon
