Search ring centres - axmister sell them and a dead centre / live centre combo is excellent.

    Performance CCL tailstock lock

Careful- the dog screw is at the front on purpose else the quill will not advance very far!

    Holding spoons

Hi Rob - welcome to the slippery slope that is spoon carving. I mainly carve eating / cooking spoons rather than Welsh style love spoons but if you fancy a run out to stroud area would be happy to spend an hour or two to go through some knife grips and tips.

Slow Speed Bench Grinders in the UK

I use a crusen 6” wide wheel slow speed grinder with 180g and 80g cbn wheels. Realise cbn can be run faster but I find this gives me so much control - as tormek slogan, sharpen not shorten!

    Dowel making

Tried multiple methods has have recently made a few Rob cosman style ‘hidden hinge’ boxes so need dowel from same material as box. I used the carbide cutter ones from Temu that were fine for 10mm dowel, esp as a surface roughness is planed off in this project. 6mm dowel is more problematic as...

    fast (ish) hollowing tool?

Out if interest, what is the driver for speed? I often spend much longer turning the outside of a piece to get the curves & proportion right than I ever do hollowing. Anyway, for shifting material, I love the woodcut proform. However, my favourite hollowing tool remains the Rolly Munro for...

First lathe: which spindle thread to choose?

The other thing to think about is which brand Chuck to go for. A long while ago I committed to the axmister range as fantastic range of jaws. This means that all the jaws you buy will be compatible with any future Axminster chucks even if I change Chuck body with a change in spindle thread. Once...

    (Partially!) Hidden hinge box

Note heard of CP oak before - sounds much better than ‘a bit knotty’ or character grade! Placement was more luck that judgement really, just centralised the knotty figure by eye and cut clean grain off to make rest of box.

    (Partially!) Hidden hinge box

In terms of the hole concentric up the middle - yes, that was with the aid of the jig.
