    Old school plumbing

I’ve been a bit busy of late wrestling with modern day plastic push fit fittings ( yuk ) so thanks for your input . Having taken that joint you can tell that they were made apart for a lifetime of conveying water and the fact they were unprotected underground is what I’m impressed with ..

Record power 300 mm sander ( again )

I’m not overly concerned with a belt sander as I have my old but very good makita . My main use for it is sanding end grain that has been handsawn , I can handsaw reasonably well but would just like to be able to clean them up without too much additional effort so a few seconds at a disc sander...

Record power 300 mm sander ( again )

Thanks for the link ,the sip looks awesome but also large ( the record bd s 250 ) also has a quite a large footprint so the 12 “ record is probably the better option space wise. It’s really only for truing up and cuts I do by hand when the weather stops me from getting outside 👍👍

Record power 300 mm sander ( again )

I have a very old makita 9401 belt sander that weighs a ton and will cope with anything so probably not ,just thinking the extra 1/2 horse power would Come in handy. To be honest my mitre saw gives a really clean cut . 👍

i know there has been a few threads on this machine and t b h it’s left me a little lost as I was thinking of getting one until I read the posts . Large garden planter design

I’ve got some to make for friends of mine , I’ve given them 3 choices. In order of longevity I’ve suggested 1 new sleepers 2 joists 3 decking boards . They will be approximately 4.8 mtrs long x 1 mtr wide x 900 high . I plan to line the inside with dpm or something similar and there will not...

    Building control gone mad?

There Seems to be a percentage of contributors to this thread that think by interpreting the rules and regulations regarding this subject. I’m of the opinion these members would deem it ok for them to drive a hgv or captain a ship or maybe fly a commercial airplane because they are competent ...

    Building control gone mad?

I’m not referring to anyone like myself who has done 30 + years, never had a serious issue or or incident or safety concern , as I let my gas safe lapse for my own reasons - i,m referring to unqualified people eg a plumber who is experienced and capable of soldering copper pipework (...

Electrical advice - how ‘backyard’ is my solution?

100% get a qualified professional electrician in and be safe, once it’s done correctly and safely you can control your lights etc without having to alter any hard wiring. Do it yourself and as @Spectric says you can’t even test it to confirm it’s safe . Burn your house down and you have no...

    Building control gone mad?

If joe soap fits a gas appliance and in doing so kills the occupants of the house he will be prosecuted under the laws of this country . Because he is not gas safe registered or even experienced in such matters as installing gas appliances he / she will be deemed incompetent and will get a...

Questions about the feasibility of building a second floor deck/balcony

Aside from planning permission, and structural engineering , potential objections from neighbours if you were to get the go ahead can I please ( I’m just curious ) ask why ? Ok so you get a nice platform above ground but it’s likely to cost several £1,000 ,s but all you get is a raised...

    Building control (or not)

I’ve seen better looking prisons and for upwards of £650,000 this is not what I’d expect. As for how it wasn’t picked up sooner - well if the planners are in bed with the builders and the architects then say no no more-rip of Britain as it’s best …
