Do you dispute this, or are you just being argumentative for fun? Do you really believe that the three-abreast lycra-clad cyclists who annoy the hell out of Mr Toad are cycling because it's their primary mode if transport?
The VED is linked to emissions. It may not be equitable, accurate or to your liking, but that's the way it is. I have no doubt that you knew this already.
Not quite sure how you think the hydrogen would be produced in the vehicle, without electricity (batteries again), or fossil fuels, which are what we're supposed to be avoiding. If you have any links, I'd be interested to read further.
When I was a lad, an acquaintance of mine dyed his hair green, shaved a "reverse mohican" and affixed a tiny lawnmower to his head, and that was his art college exam submission. To be honest, I never saw this, just heard about it.

The thing is that even the worst newspaper in the country has to be a bit careful about publishing outright lies, because they can be sued. Mr and Mrs Facebook-Twitter post something blatantly incorrect, and it's half way round the world before they've taken their finger off the touchscreen.
Whatever you may think, I'd much rather believe the BBC than some random person on Facebook or Twitter/X.
