    request for help please

Hi, I have a lovely old saw I am restoring, and I need a set of 3 new split nuts made for me - I can send the old ones, as I need the overall dimensions kept the same, but the central stem made wider. Is there anyone here who could run these up for me? Obviously happy to pay whatever you think...

    Corian- cutting, drilling and finishing

I treat corian just like a tough hardwood - all the same tools and finishing process. bear in mind, it wont be 30mm thick, it only comes 12mm and 6mm thick. You build up the thickness where needed by bonding strips together HTH, rgds, mark

UJK products - who has stock?

Hi, I am looking to upgrade my router table, and have pretty much decided on the UJK kit....( cast iron table, router lift, dust box) however, everywhere seems to be out of stock - Axminster sau 1 -2 months, and all seems to be "available to order" ( with similar lead times I imagine? ) at Peter...

    They walk among us .....

My eldest son has a classmate who's first name is "Alicia keays" The point is, these names are aspirational and speak of the desire for someone who is usually from the lower echelons of society to make themselves stand out or feel somehow more glamorous, whether used by black people or...

    They walk among us .....

It's an african american / west indian thing - they seem to like made up names such as "Shiniqua" or strange pronunciations of existing words / names such as Paris as a girls name, pronounced " Par eeeees" Who are we to judge....... Just don't make a joke out of it, or the thought police...

    Door construction advice

Hi, yes the clad frame option was what I was looking at, but 6/12/6 seemed a bit flimsy to me....it does not need to be MR , its on a sideboard in my lounge, so perhaps the lightweight MDF is the way to go.... thanks for the input, Cheers, Mark

    Shameful Dovetail practice

I am amazed at how terrible they look to start and how good the finished result is........! as the others said, the timber you are using is probably not helping.....

    Door construction advice

I have to make some doors for a project, there are 5 in total, 700mm high and approx 500mm wide. they need to be about 25mm thick. They are to be veneered both sides and have solid edge lippings. The veneering is being by a specialist, as on reflection ( its a complex sunburst pattern & it may...

The Bridge Series 2 discussion- SPOILER ALERT

I just watched the last episode tonight, completely loved it......along with all the other scandi imports, watched and enjoyed all of them. Funnily enough, I thought both Wallanders were great in their own way. Have to say that the American remake of the killing was seriously good though, they...

Opinion please re movement problem with wood floor

Hi Matt, Raff......that sounds ok in theory, but would run foul of the issue here, which I think is not the quality of the wood and how dry or not it was. It certainly looked like some of the best quality lumber I have seen supplied for floorboards in some time. The issue is primarily what would...

Opinion please re movement problem with wood floor

Hi all, the job is worth £170,000 overall, but there is £15K of work I am doing at cost for them within that. Of course, far better to make less money and have a satisfied client, but it just does annoy when as you say, people take the stance that everything is your fault. We won the FMB...

Opinion please re movement problem with wood floor

Thanks for the input everyone. There is no litigation etc , and I have already agreed to remove and refit after they have moved in and the boards have acclimatized for a couple of months. In these circumstances, I always make sure the job is right, we have worked hard to build the business on...

Opinion please re movement problem with wood floor

Hi Bob, no there was no question of them getting physically wet, although I imagine the ambient temperature & humidity of the house before the heating went on was different from the kiln. They are saying we laid too early, but that's' clearly impractical to not lay the floors until the very...
