My first attempt at wood working - Jewellery Box (WIP)

Hey Craig, that's pretty darn good buddy, I too am embarking on this kind of joinery as a novice, the last 6 months and am currently making my first dovetailed box. I spent all afternoon and the box is one set of dovetails smaller than when it started as I had to cut them off and start again...

Free window ( useful for workshop project etc?)

Hi, we have a Magnet factory finished sash window, that was supplied the wrong size for one of jobs, it has been gathering dust here in our workshop for a while now. I thought it might be useful for someone building a shed or workshop, if so, its available for free for collection from Bethnal...

    Grinding Chisels & Plane irons

It's not about the actual words, Jacob is very good at subtly winding up the people who don't agree with him. He also likes to use provocative statements. No problem in that, but understandably some people take it better than others.. Don't feed the troll I say.....!! Cheers, Mark

    Tool Cabinet - FINISHED

Hey Waka, I have just stumbled across this thread, and not sure I can add anything to the comments already posted, but was just blown away by the piece and how stunning it looks. I have been toying with the idea of making something similar for my workshop, albeit smaller, and you have just made...

Quick question regarding the Rob Cosman IBC irons

Hi Rob, that's great to know, and kind of gratifying to me to realise that I have figured out the solution by myself! Love the product and will shortly be ordering another for a number 3 that is currently being worked on, Cheers, Mark

Quick question regarding the Rob Cosman IBC irons

Hi Jacob - Firstly, the thing does fit as per the blurb, but I am not sure if I have it set up right, hence asking for some advice from other users of said product. Secondly, "why bother" ??? Because they give better results for me. I buy old Bailey planes and restore them for pleasure and try...

Quick question regarding the Rob Cosman IBC irons

I guess the other thing I could do would be to get the hole in the chipbreaker enlarged by my friendly local metalworker.... I just wondered if other users of this combo had come across the issue.... Cheers, Mark

Quick question regarding the Rob Cosman IBC irons

Hi, I just took delivery of one of these for one an old Type 15 number 4 bailey I just restored. No problem adjusting the throat to fit, however, I find that the Iron was at the absolute limit of adjustment ( IE the top of the circular cutout in the blade was resting up against the locating...

    little Friday afternoon treat.......

Thanks for the comments guys, amazing how nice some of these old beauties come up and nicely they work, especially with a decent iron in them. I would love to know the life story of my old tools, just imagine what they have seen and where they have been, and all the peoples hands before who have...

Some advice re soss hinges please

Hi Scholar, and thanks for the advice. I do have the Festo jig you mention but the hinges she has supplied are circular, not oval type, they are approx 24mm wide. My big problem in doing this is going to be the "frame" - its a window reveal of MDF, already fitted, so it will be almost impossible...

Sorry the piccies are not as sharp as usual, but they are from my blackberry. Thought I would share with you my freshly restored Type 15 number 4, sporting the rather gorgeous IBC matched set of iron and chipbreaker. These surely are a work of art and have the most amazing feel of quality. Just...

    Truth about A2 vs O1?

Which replacement irons on the market are in A2 and which are 01? Looking at the Hock irons I can see they are "high carbon" or A2 cryo treated choice. Is this yet more variation? Cosman IBC irons seem to A2 cryo as well. Cheers, Mark
