    sharpening technique

Told you........ (hammer) :D Although, does Jacob not realize we have heard it all before? I would agree about the trolling.........its like he takes some kind of malicious delight in it. Seriously, I cant believe the same old stuff gets re posted in some sharpening thread every week or...

Walnut Plane storage cabinet wall mounted

So, the next stage is the drawer frontals. I made final adjustments to the fit and then started to install the drawer boxes into the cabinet: I made some push fit drawer bottoms, covered in the same textured leather I used for the cubby hole bases: I had decided that I would try and...

    NEW WORKSHOP DILEMMA.

If you go the flat roof way, EPDM is very good and you only need a minimal pitch. You could have a central box gutter or one at the side. I don't know how handy you are, but the EPDM is pretty easy to install if you are a competent woodworker. You can buy kits here: http://www.sedumsupply.co.uk/...

Kitchen Worktop Joints - sealing recommendations ?

Well, like I said, there should be zero gap showing if its done correctly. And of course, you can slather too much silicone on which may hamper a tight fit. Its one of things that only experience can give you. A bad joint will need disguising and that's where colourfill can come in handy. But...

Kitchen Worktop Joints - sealing recommendations ?

No particular brand, but don't use cheap ones - always a false economy. just make sure your customer ( or you?) understand, even a perfectly executed joint will let in water over time if its left lying on it, so dry it up with a cloth and it should last a long time. I like to creep up on a fit...

Wow......not worthy.......if I did not have at least 10 marking gauges already, I would buy one.......may well buy one anyway as I only have of that type ! Cheers, Mark

Kitchen Worktop Joints - sealing recommendations ?

Sorry to disagree, but as a kitchen fitter of 15 years and a veteran of hundreds of worktop fits, silicone (clear) is the correct thing to use. Coat each side completely and bolt up, any excess will squeeze out. If you have machined the joint correctly, the edges of the formica should close...

HELP! House training an older dog

Taking on a rescue dog is a great thing to do, but often comes at a high price in extra work training and readjusting the animal. One of my dogs is a rescue, she is a staff cross bull mastiff, and just so sweet and affectionate, but if she sees another dog she does not know when out, then she...

best way to join picture frame mitres

Hi, in between my stuff, i have been collared into making some picture frames for SWMBO........ Frame components in solid walnut are made and ready to be mitred together, however, glue surface area is very small, as they are very narrow profile, each side being 10mm & 5mm thick respectively...

    bench dog hole collars.....

Thanks for the quick replies fellas, but sadly, "bench dogs" search on intelligent workshop only turned up some festool versions and some threaded ones, not what I was looking for in the second reply either. I have a picture here of what I had in mind ( although he made these...)

Walnut Plane storage cabinet wall mounted

The next stage is the drawers....... there will be 4 slim drawers at the bottom, I have been debating whether to use traditional method - I have not done this before and the whole point of all the stuff I do is to learn new methods and techniques. But the design of the unit does not make it easy...

    bench dog hole collars.....

Hi guys ( and girls)...I have seen them on fancy benches, mostly made by talented guys with a lathe and nice materials to hand, but I cant seem to find anything for sale. Basically, I want some nice metal or whatever collars to sit the bench dogs in, rather than just a bare hole in the wood...

Chisels - how low can you go?

Well......no surprise here really. It's like anything else really in life..there is always somebody offering the same thing for less. except, when you look at it closely, it's not the same thing. Sometimes, the whole experience is worth more than the sum of the parts. If you are a complete tight...

Would the smaller festool be suitable to make internal doors

Maybe just about...the biggest Domino for the 500 version is 50mm I think, but they are pretty sturdy and with the right material, and build technique, they would just about do. But really, they are borderline too small. The tenons should really go right through the stiles, for maximum strength...
