    Replacing spindle pulleys?

Yes sorry I forgot to mention the pulleys I removed had pretty much disintegrated. They can be very fragile. Ok if you are replacing with new.

Hi Chas Still working on the swirls but waiting a better bandsaw blade from Tuffsaws before trying again. Meanwhile, I followed your WIP on boxes on your website and came up with this. Ash, purpleheart and oak. Not a patch on your standard but I'm quite chuffed with it. They say that...

    Replacing spindle pulleys?

I repaired one of these for a friends father last year. Exactly the same problem. The alloy pulleys overheat and deform making them difficult to change. If I remember rightly I had to use a bearing puller to get the damn thing off. After that, replacement was simple and machine back to full...

Thank you. Yes, wasn't the most accurate, but I was working on a smaller radius so most of that should(?) disappear when glued up and cut to round. I was too busy exploring different ways of doing it . Voyage of discovery it seems! What I would like to say is thank you for the various WIPs you...

    Turning is Heaven in 2011

Hi Chas Found a different method for cutting the segments. Here they are straight off the bandsaw, no sanding. Cherry and Keruing. Not perfect but better. Still have the hole in the middle but that's going to be difficult to avoid if segments are to align, and as you say, academic if you...

    Turning is Heaven in 2011

Yes I do like a challenge! Now I have the method I intend to follow up with "proper wood" and see how it turns out. I actually drilled the central clearance hole out after cutting. The segments can be cut off one at a time if required to maintain a complete disc. It's just the last segment...

    Turning is Heaven in 2011

The reason I asked is because I saw the problem and basically, being a lazy person, I thought I could shorten the process. I found a method using a bandsaw jig I have already and tried it on a piece of scrapwood, result as shown below. Do you think that is close enough?

Hi Chas I know this is an old article but did you ever sort out a jig for cutting the swirls so as to avoid sanding to shape? Linus

"Off the shelf" vs DIY workbenches

I too looked at the Paul Sellers bench and found it so easy for a complete newbie that I built one. Simple but solid, and fully adaptable if needed. All made from CLS and cost next to nowt. Vice was £20 off fleabay. First ever foray into woodwork and I still use it today.

    Cascamite WBP

Thanks guys. I've subsequently found Soverign One Shot and Resinmite One Shot. I give in and will go with Aerolite as per Peter's recommendation.😕

    Cascamite WBP

Even more confused:unsure: Internet search brings up Cascamite One Shot and Aerolite One Shot! Are they the same? Can anybody clarify?

    Cascamite WBP

Following my earlier post re Yandles equivalent, I noticed from the photo on their site that the mixing instructions finished with...."stirring until smooth. One Shot is now ready to use." Call me a cynic, but it would appear to be the same product as this thread?????

    Cascamite WBP

Searching for Cascamite (which I have never used before) I found this thread and it seems there are a few issues with it at present. Not wishing to buy large quantities, I came across Yandles powdered UF resin glue. Does anyone know if this is worth trying...
