    It's OK I found the answer. The types with removable points are the Bormax WS which are a tad😲 more expensive. Sorted

    Does anybody know whether this set has a removable centre point, and are they easy to hone? Also, at £74 for the set, is it value for the product offered?

    Thanks all. I'll go with Meranti. I shall turn it at some point and see what emerges! Seems so soft and light I'll probably have fun getting a finish on it. Light red Meranti has the same dried weight according to the wood database as well.

    Can I hurl this one at the combined knowledge of this forum? With the passing of a friend's father, I acquired a quantity of unidentified turning blanks going back to offcuts from the ark! I am stumped by this one below so any help welcomed. The blank is 150mm dia x 65mm deep. It weighs 508g...

    Some good advice on remounting rough turned bowls. Take a look at Glenn Lucas on yt?. He has a video describing how he does it.

    I have been using a water cooled wheel for a few years but recently bought a pro-edge and the difference is amazing. Others may disagree but it is so much quicker and easier to use IMHO.

    I would also plump for the M42 option. Pricier but long lasting and will cope with the odd stray nail!

    Looking at the picture I see no end grain cracks as yet. I would advise either seal them with Chestnut end seal or I use a candle wax bath to dunk the ends in. One problem storing green blanks to dry is mould, so if you do this check frequently as it can discolour the timber badly...

    Did your computer come with Norton pre-installed by the manufacturer? Whether you sign up to it or not it may be lurking in the background. Worth a check. If you have, remove all traces of it (not simple)
