A box with a Kumiko lid, made almost entirely with hand tools. The only power tool used was a bandsaw for resawing some thick stock down to a thinner section. Everything else: mitred dovetails in the ash sides, mitres in the American black walnut lining and the lid, jigs for the Kumiko and the...

Most Useful Discovery for Online Woodworkers EVER EVER EVER

In my job, I use a lot of symbols when typing and I got fed up with the alt codes as they seem such a backwards way of doing it. To make my life easier I wrote a little application (written in python, but can be compiled to a windows executable so it doesn't require python) that makes symbol...

Today I finished making four dovetail boxes (spread out over two posts on here). I made these mostly to practise hand-cut dovetails. Three of the frames were made while I was on holiday; the other was from a while before then. When I got back I had lots of other stuff on the list (and wanted...

Finally, I 3D printed a Maskery pattern dust extractor: ... and yes, I could have made it out of 40 mm pipe and brackets like Steve did in his video, but that would have involved going to a shop, and where's the fun in that? The three brackets each have two very strong 20 mm diameter, 6 mm...

I thought I'd post a little update on the bandsaw. It has settled into its spot nicely and the castors are working well when I need to move it out the way (for example when I wanted to use the milling machine to make my new shooting handle). I haven't used it a great deal yet as I had a lot of...

A few months ago, I made a simple handle to make my LA jack plane a bit more comfortable when I'm using it for shooting: It works really well and has been an almost permanent attachment to my low angle jack plane. However, it has two (arguably rather minor) problems: Firstly, while it gives...

For what it's worth, the retractable castors I used were only £40 and, if you don't have welding gear then wood would probably be strong enough. Alternatively, do it properly & fit a roller garage door: then you'll have loads more headroom and some extra overhead storage space too! :D

    Resawing - Japanese saw options

Yeah, I've been doing a lot of resawing lately and it was getting old fast. The kerfing saw (more recently I've used another one that was uses a Stanley 55 as a basis, giving the advantage of a fence either side) makes it a heck of a lot easier, but it's still a chore.

    Record Power BS400

Yep, I'm a happy bunny indeed I got it unloaded (in bits) when I got home but it was too hot to do much with it then. I put it together on Sunday morning and even managed to weld🥵 up a simple replacement base for it before the heat got too oppressive: the standard "wheel kit" is very good, but...
