    5 1/2 plane???

While good information of English Stanleys is hard to come by, the late David Lynch did fairly thorough research on Record handplanes. I just checked his definitive website and he makes no mention of anything other than wooden handles on Record bench planes. The Record 044C and 045C combination...

    5 1/2 plane???

My 1973 Stanley No.4 had stained beech handles. I don't believe Stanley went to plastic until either very late 1970s or 1980s. I have an early 1990s Record-Marples No.04 with wooden handles (that's not to say they didn't experiment with plastic handles before that). Cheers, Vann.

    5 1/2 plane???

There's nothing wrong (and a lot right) with the older, narrower version - but if the iron is well worn it's hard to find a replacement. Look for a wider one from the 1940s or 1950s. Too new and there's a higher chance of picking up a dud (as quality control got worse). Record held their quality...

    Pink anti-theft tools

This Wadkin PK is painted pink and to the best of my knowledge it's never been stolen. Of course there's a slight chance that's because it weighs in at around 15cwt (~750kg) rather than the colour ;). Cheers, Vann.

    Pink anti-theft tools

Painting your tools pink will probably stop most regular thieves. Instead they'll get stolen by gangs of women...😉 Cheers, Vann.

    Guns,guns, and more Guns

Possibly because this thread is titled "Guns, guns and more guns" - so if you're talking about crime that doesn't include guns, then you're off topic ;). Cheers, Vann.

    Another Joke

Me neither. I refuse. My daughter thinks I'm an old fuddy duddy, and my nephew thinks I'm a conspiracy theorist. Me, I just think I've got principles... Cheers, Vann.

    Wadkin 10 AGS "Restoration"

I'm not familiar with the Wadkin-Bursgreen AGS. My Wadkin saws are older (1936 + 1945), but neither have acme threads. So I agree with J-G, acme threads are unlikely. It's most likely Whitworth profile, but not necessarily a standard BSW/BSF thread count. Cheers, Vann.

    Wadkin "tradesman" brand?

Likewise I don't know much about the "Tradesman" range either. I believe they were someone else's machine rebadged (as you suggest) but not necessarily Chinese. Sorry I can't help further. Cheers, Vann.

    Very sad news

No wonder I was a mixed up kid - I'm a socialist and a royalist. It can't have been too much of a surprise, at 99. But nonetheless a little sad. My daughter is working towards her Duke of Edinburgh bronze - so I guess he's left his mark. Vann.

    Where are they now?

I guess that would be "three speech". Cheers, Vann.

Tool post dimensions. Your input and information is needed!

Hi. My Wadkin RT (RTA 380 of 1951) uses a 1 3/8" BSW (6tpi) headstock thread. Headstock has an MT2 taper (blind, like the RS), and the tailstock is also MT2. Don't forget to add Wadkin's RU to the list (no, I don't know any of the sizes for the RU). Cheers, Vann.

Which model? Wadkin RM or FM? Or one of the Wadkin-Bursgreen machines? Cheers, Vann.

Record Marples No 04 Plane - Unusual markings - History of please.

My understanding is that arrow is a military mark. I wonder if the "19 - 89" is the year 1989 - which would be about right for a Record Marples plane. Cheers Vann.

    Best vintage manual hand drill

Best one: North Bros 1555 'Yankee" (USA). Perfectly adequte one: Stanley 803 (UK). Don't get mixed up with the Stanley 805,.which only has a single pinion gear. The 803 has two pinions which makes for smoother cranking Record made a similar eggbeater drill, their 123. For some reason the later...

    Quangsheng parts

My understanding is that WH Quangsheng planes are unique to WH. That is to say WH tweak the specs to their own requirements. I believe the US Woodriver planes are to a very similar spec (and Luban may be to the same spec as Woodriver). Rutlands spec is very different and much cheaper (&...
