Sold Antique plough (or plow) woodworking plane by AMES

It might be worth adding a couple of photos from the front and bottom. Shots that show the profile of plane sole, width of the blade, state of skids and blades. It looks like there are wedges missing that would hold the side rails at a set position. Is that corrrect?

    Buying from Zoro

I like Zoro. They have some surprisingly nice stuff there. I bought my first panel saws from them https://www.zoro.co.uk/shop/tools-and-machining/saws-hand-and-mitre/traditional-hand-saws/f/5104?query=hand%20saw. Though mostly it small bits and pieces I buy.

My dust extractor no longer works as it used to.

You can buy new motors for Record CamVac. They are a little fiddly to fit, but it's not too difficult. Replacement / Spare Motor for Record Power CamVac Extractor Machines 1000W Direct Airflow 240v I'd also give Record a ring. The service department have been very helpful when I have rung them

Does Size Really Matter ? DeWalt DWE 7485 210 mm or DWE 7492 250mm

My point is that as long as you can get the blade(s) you want the 8" is fine and a lot cheaper. This discussion reminds me of Fairy dishwashing fluid adverts that used to bang on about the hundreds of dishes you could wash with one bowl. My issue was that I rarely washed more than 20-30 items a...

Does Size Really Matter ? DeWalt DWE 7485 210 mm or DWE 7492 250mm

My point was more that a table only has the capacity for one blade at a time. So for many 17 is a choice of 16 too many. For many a choice of 8 is choice enough.

Does Size Really Matter ? DeWalt DWE 7485 210 mm or DWE 7492 250mm

Hmmm. In a table saw you only need one blade

Does Size Really Matter ? DeWalt DWE 7485 210 mm or DWE 7492 250mm

For what it's worth, what stood out for me stepping up from a very basic table saw to a DeWalt jobsite saw was the quality of the fence. Also how easy blade angle and height was to adjust, and how much better the dust extraction was. I've not once been concerned about the blade diameter. There's...

I did drop a few hints...

That's spooky. I also have Sithl bluetooth ear defenders. I've recently got into this as my default wear and forget noise protection: Studiospares Pacato 16 Hearing Protection by ACS Custom. The great thing is that I can pop the Sithi headphones over the top of them when I'm doing anything...

Advice for Rust free tools in workshops

My garage isn't water tight, and rust has been a problem in the past. However, I recently been able to keep rust at bay by: Waxing parts as part of my regular tool maintenance. Something like Axminster Workshop Tool and Machine Wax, though I think any microcrystalline wax will do. Using rust...

I did drop a few hints...

My understanding is that it can be misleading to think that noise cancelling headphones make good ear defenders. They don't block all noise the way that dedicated ear defenders will. See this for example: Can Noise-Canceling Headphones Stop Hearing Loss? What to Know

Internet Archive - useful resource for woodworking books

I was looking for a copy of Fine woodworking on proven shop tips, when I can across a copy in the Internet Archive. I was chuffed to bits as hard copies were all quite expensive. Even with a donation accessing the book was significantly cheaper. And then I started searching and found there are...

    How to set a saw

Thank you @Derek Cohen (Perth Oz). Reassuring to see I'm not the only one that needs a lot of light and serious magnification when saw sharpening. Keeping track of the order of alternating teeth definitely takes the most concentration. It's even more work with crosscut saws where alternating...
