    Ukrainian Carving Axe

I thought the most intriguing tool on the site has to be the Stock Knife. I've only seen old examples of those. This is the only new version that I'm aware of. If I had a good supply of green wood, that would be at the top of my list.

    Ukrainian Carving Axe

I've been looking to get a small carving axe for a while. So when I saw an article in the Grauniad about a Ukrainian tool maker who was continuing to work in spite of the war, I thought I could support him and get myself the axe I'd wanted. So I went onto the website and ordered a Small-sized...

    CBN wheels.

I recently bought a grinder with CBN WHEEL from Hope Woodturning. Excellent price and service. Also I was looking to get an 80 grit but following a conversation with Simon Hope at Hope Woodturning, I decided to follow his advice and get a 180 grit CBN wheel. I've been very pleased with this...

    Tenon saw sharpen service

Something else to consider - the teeth are small. My old eyes struggle to see them. So good lighting is essential. I've even taken to wearing magnifying spectacles when I work on saws.

    Tenon saw sharpen service

I did the same thing. Got hold of some old saws at an auction and practiced on them. I'm still not great at it, but getting better. I'm particularly pleased with the resharpening of a tenon saw I did so that I could dedicate it to cross cuts. I have a couple of gadgets that help. I find the...

Lovely legs and other joys of hide glue

Having used mine a few times, I wouldn't worry too much about size. A little goes a long way. I find I'm more likely to make up too much than too little. Also once it's warm, it doesn't take long to make up another batch. Mine's a 500ml, but I expect a 300ml would be fine. I've had another look...

    Freehand sharpening training

Hate to distract from the very important conversation about planing angles but .... Personally, what I like about this picture is the paralax error you get if you read the angle from the inside of the door instead of the outside. The outside edge reads as 40 degrees, but the inside reads about...

    18v tool brand choice

Pick one because you like the look of them. It doesn't matter - they all work fine. You just need to pick one to cut down on the number of batteries and chargers you need. They all go brumm-brumm whizzy-whizzy. All the top brands are well made and work well. And I also garantee that in a year or...

    Incra mitre gauge

I was looking for a mitre gauge to use on my DeWalt and was looking to get a Incra 1000SE. I got very close a couple of times but ended up getting a Wnew one from Bangood. TBH I've not used it in anger as I tend to be doing more by hand recently and only get the table saw out occasionally...

Lovely legs and other joys of hide glue

Perhaps a little unusual, but I thought I'd post my thoughts on a purchase I made a couple of months ago. Namely a 500ML Wax Warmer Heater Melting Machine Single Pot. It cost me £21.74 on ebay. I can't find the exact model but there are plenty of similar Wax heaters and I'm sure they all behave...

    Mole Grips

No moles were harmed in the making of this thread (or so I'm assured).

    Tail Vice travelling block

It should be a fun little project :)

    Tail Vice travelling block

Following my less than successful attempt to build a tail vice (something I mean to return to but have not got round to) my key lesson is that there is a turning moment between the centre of force being applied by the screw and the point on the dog when the work piece touches. That rotates the...

Looking to buy a block plane

I have a few second hand block planes of different types and sizes. I was surprised at the diffence between a genuine Record 220 and an almost identical acme plane. The Record blade was held securely and the plane worked well. The acme just wouldn't hold the blade in place. So the Record was my...

    Choosing a Bench Grinder

Yes. That's why I took the time to find a slow grinder that is particularly suited to this role. I have had no problem with burning the steel.

    Choosing a Bench Grinder

I bought an 8" slow grinder from Hope Wood turning recently. Chose the option with a 240 grit CBN wheel. I'm very pleased with it so far, and excellent service from Hope.

    Wood torturing in spare time

Programming and woodworking - works for me too!

    Camvac and 32mm hoses.

I use a two motor camvac feeding a cyclone via a DX1500b with no problems at all. If you are worried you can just use one motor (though cover the inlet for the motor not being used. A Percol 100ml coffee jar lid fits a treat with only a minor bit of trimming).

    Woodworking Apron

I've got three and none of them really fit what I want. The element I would recommend you consider is the straps. The cheap ones on the internet have a strapping that loops from the top down to the waist - so the neck and waist straps are combined into one. Two of my aprons have this arrangement...

    Mouldings by hand.

Excellent - I'd like to see those. I've half a dozen wooden moulding planes that I've not used in anger, so would appreciate the inspiration.
