    low angle smoother

I'm very much enjoying the input from woodworkers who are far more experienced than me. However, one trivial comment to add: Low angle planes really made me appreciate how great the lateral adjuster works in the Bailey design.

    Holding spoons

To be honest I have such a mat but couldn't spot it when I looking to do some carving recently. Again it is something that would help.

    Holding spoons

Thanks Phil, a vice mounted on top of the bench would be useful. I have wondered about getting one of the Axminster "Pattern makers" vices. That in combination with Pete's rope solution would provide a much wider range of clamping options that I have at the moment.

    Holding spoons

Thanks Pete - that's rather splendid. I have to give that a go.

That would be great @SVB. My parents lived below Rodborough Common so no problem finding my way down to Nailsworth. I'll send a PM

Thank you. It's pear I think. It isn't green so I'm probably making things harder for myself.

    Holding spoons

I thought I'd try my hand at carving and making spoons for my granddaughters would be a nice little project in the run up to Christmas. The first is for my eldest granddaughter and I'm pleased with it. But I want to make something a little more delicate for the younger granddaughter. So on...

That makes sense. A jack plane is hugely versatile. If you only have one plane that's the one to have.

    Hand router plane...

I guess what we can all agree on is that it's a good time to buy a router plane. Oh, and I'd add the Melbourne Router plane as another option. Again the Hongdui is the more obvious option to the Melbourne, but the latter's blade setup is interesting. Easier to sharpen. Akin to the Paul Sellar...

    Hand router plane...

Blue Spruce version is currently $230 ($270 RRP) on their site. Woodpeck looks to be the same price. Hongdui is $140 ($300 RRP). So more expensive but not twice the price. As @pe2dave says - you get what you pay for. TBH I think $230 is a good price. It's comparable to the Veritas large router...

    Hand router plane...

The Hongdui plane looks very nice, but it is just a standard router plane with a nice depth stop and height adjuster. IMO This looks much more interesting: That's the Woodpecker version. However there looks to be a very similar Blue Spruce Toolworks plane entering the market too: More...

    low angle smoother

I have the Melbourne low angle smoothing plane which I bought from Wood Workers Workshop. I'm very pleased with it. It is definitely a good end grain solution. Having said that, for plain old smoothing I prefer my standard pattern bailey 3 and 4 both of which can be picked up cheaply second hand.

    Led light panels

I got these panels from ebay in my garage: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/400921892859 One of the best decisions I've made. It's like daylight with them on. I'm really pleased with them.

    Sharing with a deep freezer.

Upright. Stuff stored on top of it doesn't need to be removed each time it is accessed. It's all well and good saying you won't put too much stuff on top of the chest freezer but it's guaranteed that it will be a pain in the arse to move everything off when you need to access the freezer. We...

    For Sale Marples plane.

Always good to see the wedge in such nice condition. Nice looking plane.

Why Glue Alone Won’t Make Strong Joints

Because I like posting links to media that I think are great, but other people will tell me are rubbish .... I really like the breadth of considerations (including durability) discussed and the simple way it is presented.

    VERUM'S LATEST TOOLS ARE HERE!

@Peter Sefton The chisels look interesting. Affordable good quality socket handled chisels are different to the mainstream. Only problem is I have even more chisels than I need that I have planes :)

Slow Speed Bench Grinders in the UK

I've posted before on this forum, but I've had excellent service from Hope Woodturning from whom I bought a slow grinder with 180 grit CBN wheel and later a 6" 80 grit wheel. https://hopewoodturning.co.uk/sharpening-jigs/grinder/?p=1
