    Any Festool owners?

It’s interesting reading people’s opinions on topics like this, I’ll give you mine for what it’s worth. I am not sure what category of woodworker I would fall under, some kind of backstreet ‘jack of all’ at a guess not that that really matters, other than I do all manner of woodworking from...

An introduction to the Overhead Router

Thanks for the kind words. There is quite a lot of basic detail on the lodge gate that applies to almost anything else in traditional joinery methods. Very briefly it’s stub morticed and tenoned in all of the joints, including the lower lattice work and the upper curves. The rails are fixed...

An introduction to the Overhead Router

This is as near identical to the one I use, looks to be just a later edition with the modern Wadkin colouring and some other minor details. No bed extensions that I can see though, and the collets look scarce. On the flip side a decent selection of pins with it, they cover most of the standard...

    Help with Robinson Saw Manual

As the title suggests I am in need of a Robinson ET-E 18” table saw manual. Any help would be hugely appreciated. Scotty

Help with selecting Iroko for garden gate

If you search ‘a garden gate’ under ScottyT you’ll see on page 2 of the thread (I think) a little bit about T&G, and it’s in iroko. I explain a little on expansion, and I am sure there is a picture of my rod showing the T&G board dimensions exactly as they are to be machined with the expansion...

Help with selecting Iroko for garden gate

    1. From my experience it’s a good timber to use for outdoors, I use it in abundance outside for all manner of joinery. 2. It’s a common timber so all serious players will carry 1” through to 4” with little issue, I guess it’ll come down to current availability and price for you 3. That’s...

An introduction to the Overhead Router

Thank you Pretty much all of the above work I have mentioned cannot be done on a spindle, either not at all, or not practically (mainly not at all) That’s why it’s such a significant machine to have use of in the shop.

An introduction to the Overhead Router

Great to see that there are still people out there making good use of these great machines. I had a light dig about didn’t find as much as I thought I had on the photo front but never the less there is a couple to show. Here’s one set of the couple of louvres the overhead knocked out in...

An introduction to the Overhead Router

An introduction to the Overhead Router

That’s brilliant, like yourself I could not be without it and i have seen them go on eBay fairly regularly for sub 300 pounds! I had a job not that long ago to make up some large hoops, that were in essence a 90mm post, twisted into a diamond profile and then made into a huge ellipse. It was a...

An introduction to the Overhead Router

Fantastic that you’re familiar with them and rate their usefulness, I get the feeling machines like these are dying out never to return. It’s all in the jigs for sure, once that has been mastered and you know your way around it you’re well away. Thanks for the reply

An introduction to the Overhead Router

3 hoops template i machined off of the overhead to use as my pin profiler for 12 of these to go in to columns. I made this entrance gate years ago and these photos are when i went back to rectify a bodge by the automation company. All of the lattice work in the bottom regarding halving was...

An introduction to the Overhead Router

Superb. It’s all dangerous in the wrong hands I suppose. I have done some super tight and very small glazing bars off profile on it in the past with great results. superb. I suppose it’s all dangerous in the wrong hands. I have machined some insanely tight glazing bars from profile on it in the...

An introduction to the Overhead Router

Now it’s all set and I am happy, I can dog Into all the stiles, 4 are going in one direction 4 are going the other (we call this handing) means no more than 4 are going left and 4 are going right and when you pair them together to make the door they are both going in same direction as they are...

An introduction to the Overhead Router

So, in reference to louvre doors (excusing the poor design from the architect) I need to machine 45 degree trenches in my stiles and it’s here where the Overhead comes into play. I need to machine 8 stiles, and it’s 19 per so 152 all in. There are a number of ways to do it, whether it’s on a...

An introduction to the Overhead Router

I am currently making some louvre doors for a couple of air conditioning rooms somewhere up in the capitol, and it got me thinking as I was on the machine, I wonder how many people have one, use one or used to use one or have no idea what one is at all? I am an enormous fan and could not be...
