    Out of my depth

I can't help much with skills/equipment I'm afraid, but I would think that you want to accentuate the wood as the main feature of any furniture you make from it, and that always makes me think of pairing it with painted legs. I took a similar approach with my live edge console table. I think...

    "Vanity" breadboard ends

I pilfered some old oak cabinet doors from a work colleague which I have processed into a modest collection of strip wood and small panels. He had previously asked about the practicality of making a toy box for his son and I talked him through the process of MDF faker shaker construction and...

Has anyone modified extraction ports on tools?

I actually undertook this over the weekend but haven't had an excuse to test it out yet. I have the Triton TPT125 thickness which features a dust extraction adapter that converts from the long skinny outlet on the machine itself to a 50mm (ish?) diameter circular port. Having bought a proper...

    Foldable Router Table

I recently bought a Triton TRA001 specifically because of the height adjustment feature for using in a router table. I had initially planned to make my own table top, but after looking at the insert for the Triton Workcentre I decided that £150 including the fence and accessories was a no...

    Reclaimed black walnut

Alas, it doesn’t particularly appeal. I’ll end up with a lathe I’m sure, but just for necessities I think. I don’t tend to think of small projects, but I really should. I’m making a small sapelle jewellery box for my wife, but beyond that I don’t really have any ideas 🤷🏻‍♂️

    Reclaimed black walnut

To be fair, the piece I posted a picture of is an internal shelf. I definitely get the impression that this was a bespoke build originally. The amount of wood used in the legs is seriously excessive, no way a manufacturer would be wasting that much wood. I am grateful for this 😆

    Reclaimed black walnut

Good tip, thanks! I nearly didn’t bother 🤷🏻‍♂️

    Reclaimed black walnut

hah yeah thin is a relative term I guess. I meant that if they did warp there’s not a lot of room for planing.

    Reclaimed black walnut

I was offered a large sideboard from a colleague, he said it was “heavy” but no more details. Expecting laminated MDF, I took a punt and made the journey to collect and to my surprise, I appear to have scored a lot of solid black walnut. Can anybody confirm? The sideboard itself is in...

    Live edge console table

i just came across this post by Stumpy Nubs that details a much better (and simpler) jig thank I used. It may be useful for anybody trying this, I’ll certainly be adapting my technique next time!

Joining plywood to 40mm MDF "Worktop"

Pete, yeah I think I'm overthinking this, I'll just glue it I think. Ian, that's a nice technique, I'll keep that in mind for another time 👍🏼

Joining plywood to 40mm MDF "Worktop"

I'm building a desk for the home office and have an off cut of 40mm MDF that we used as a worktop for another project. Unfortunately it's not quite as deep as required, but as it will be built-in this gives me an opportunity to add a "cable trough" along the back edge. I have made this from...

    First Serious project: Chest-On-Chest

That is a beast.. a big beautiful beast! A great effort and a wonderful result. I feel your pain on the Wickes white wood, I made the mistake of using that to make cabinet doors. It worked, but the quality of the doors is poor (below my lack of expertise), and one is so badly warped that it...

    Coffee table

It looks great. I can imagine the chunkiness really working in certain environments. In an old farmhouse with big low beams and a massive fireplace it would be appropriate. In a more modern home then I agree that it's on the hefty side. If you've seen my recent thread, it's does seem to be a...

    Live edge console table

Thanks for the tip, I should have thought of that. I mean, to be fair, 30 minutes research before the pour would have been a good idea, but ho hum.

    Live edge console table

YES, hence the chunky base... it was intentional all along 😉

    Live edge console table

Thanks, nice to hear some positive comments about the blue stripe, I'm not keen but it's nice to hear that it's not objectively bad 😁 It's for my side of the sofa, so it only needs to be big enough for beer 🍺

    Live edge console table

I don't mind at all, I'd rather have people tear my work to shreds than hear deafening silence, and constructive criticism is the best way of learning. I'm a software engineer in my day job, and we are quite used to giving and receiving pretty brutal feedback in the workplace. I'm really happy...
