    Pantry Built-ins

There is a plinth, but the design could be changed. I’m going to stick with drawers, but I’m struggling to describe my reasoning. They’re just the “right” tool for the job. If the drawer’s intended use meant that being able to wheel it across the room was a bonus, then that might persuade me...

Did you pocket hole project wobble then fall apart?

I use them a fair bit, but only ever with glue. I find them excellent for carcasses as you can hide the pocket holes on the outside where they will be covered up by other carcasses, wall or end panel. It's the lack of clamps that I find particularly useful. As for the utility of a jig, I wish...

Yeah I'm aware that trying for matching grain is high risk for somebody with my skillset. I tend to try to mitigate risk with making test pieces, so I'm pretty confident that I can pull it off. The other risk mitigation is to have a plan for "what do I do if it goes titsup". In this case, if...

Yeah I’m not concerned about the bottom panel flexing. I think I was worrying about weight pushing the top forward like a trapezium, which is nonsense because the weight is still all on the bottom, which is supported by the drawer slides. The top rails are just to stop things falling out.

    Pantry Built-ins

I'm currently debating the drawer design. They are going to have open sides, so that we can see and access tins, sauces etc, and they're going to be holding a fair amount of weight. I would like to save space, so I'd prefer to go with 12mm rather than 18mm. I have no concerns about 12mm ply...

Thanks dude, if you can take on a workshop, you can definitely tackle plastering 😉

theres a new Yankee workshop episode with a (presumably cedar) greenhouse. wife bought me the dvd years ago. I’d love to tackle it one day

We haven’t settled on drawer/door front designs yet. We don’t want anything to dark, but considering just flat oak (veneered ply). I could get all of them from a single sheet, so that opens up the possibility of an entirely grain matched front, which sounds quite elegant. Any ideas welcomed 👍🏼...

    Pantry Built-ins

We have a small area off the kitchen that’s just begging for some built ins to give us some extra storage. We are going to block in the cupboard under the stairs and move the radiator into the kitchen proper (and replace it with something much less anaemic). Then the new storage will include...

    Watertight after 20 years

Started renovating the family bathroom when we first moved in to this house. It's 90% done and I've made no further progress on it in 2 years 🤷🏻‍♂️ If the wife is sensible/remembers, she'll stipulate that work on the workshop cannot commence until it's done 😂

DBT85s Workshop - Moved in and now time to fit it out

As somebody with no children, I'm not one for starting much before 10 either :D. My wife would be able to provide some assistance, and I have a roofer on my estate that I'm somewhat friendly with. My heart tells me to build it, my head (and wife) tells me to throw money at it :(

DBT85s Workshop - Moved in and now time to fit it out

I'm in the planning stages (unfortunately planning permission) of a build that's hopefully going to be quite a bit bigger (45m2) than you've shared. Your build log has very much inspired me to self build, but I don't want to take on something and realise too late that it's bigger than I can...

    Knitting needles

As expected, the wood fibres don't mix well with wool and they are difficult to use. I finished them with hard wax oil, and now realise that something like varnish would have suppressed stray wood fibres. Can I just apply this over the hard wax oil, or would something else be more suitable?

Wooden Deck - Stained last summer, scuffing off now :(

so you're saying that the decking was still damp and that's the cause?

Wooden Deck - Stained last summer, scuffing off now :(

We (well, the wife did) refinished our deck during the summer which initially had a really nice result, but pretty quickly it started to scuff off anywhere that saw any amount of traffic. We used No Nonsense Decking Stain and the reviews are excellent, leading me to believe that we did...

Help with a built in wardrobe.

The rebase(?) between the curve and the sides/front almost look like it's been fitted together like a panel door with a groove in the side/front panels. In which case, any sheet good bending enough could be persuaded into place with possibly with some ribs on the backside to help it keep the...

New Workshop Build - I don't know where to start

I knocked up a new version to get an idea for what knocking down the existing garage would look like, and figured I might as well share it. The line across the front of the garage is the line projected from the side of the house, which I'm starting to think would be a requirement for planning...
